GINGERBREAD ROM

2.3.5 EI22 "ThunderHawk" v.3.4.2 Official [Journaled]

Updates, Important Notices, and General Information Posted Here!

The Secret Is In The Frosting!
But I'll Never Tell!

I maintain RandomROM as a distribution across multiple forums. As such, the bulk of the information, details, etc. is maintained on my personal site. Rest assured, the links below will take you to the site where you will find all of the information you require regularly updated on how to use this rom. No subscription required. Always free (donations appreciated, never required). All of my roms, mods, themes, guides, etc. can be found on this easy to navigate site as well as a blog for providing upcoming updates. As always, I will still answer questions here.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, divorce, bankruptcy, acne, etc. Please do some research if you are a first time flasher BEFORE flashing this rom. YOU are choosing to make these modifications, with no coercion, and no help from the developer. By downloading, you agree to have read all pertinent information provided and to accept any and all responsibility.

Why Should I Use RandomROM?

This rom is a personal hobby of mine to maintain the greatest battery life that I can. I've scoured the forums searching for the newest and greatest tweaks, mods, etc. to include, and then carefully tested them all for battery performance. I've also made additional changes, developments, and additions all my own. Contained within are many useful apps pre-installed as well as an effort to replicate my exact setup which has yielded me 0-1% battery loss per hour maximum when idle! All included apps have been RandomKing-Approved to conform with the best battery usage. I'm always on the lookout for more tweaks, possible thematic changes, etc. There should be no issues, but should I happen to find one, I may simply release a patch or a new version utilizing my new incremental update feature. Many of you have complained that others achieve much better battery life. The goal of RandomRom is to provide MY setup that's provided me with great battery life without sacrificing performance. I also offer a superior installation experience with a vast array of features combined in ways unseen before! Further details are available on the download page.

STANDARD FEATURES INCLUDED:

CIQ Removed | Modified Sprint Hotspot | Silent/Vibrate Volume | Extended Power Menu Options
Voodoo Sound & Color | GPS Fix | Low Battery Camera&Video Player
1x Signal Mod | Battery Full Pop-Up Mod
Multi-Function Installation

This rom also includes my brand new installer-script that completely revitalizes the way you'll flash RandomROM. First and foremost, this rom is now MTD and BML compatible thanks to code from Senseisimple and Bbelos! This means that you can install ThunderHawk no matter what format you're on, it will detect your setup and install accordingly. It WILL NOT convert you to MTD or vice versa. I will provide a script that will reformat your phone from BML to MTD courtesy of Bbelos, but this is optional. Once again, it will run on either format, but will retain whatever your phone is formatted. Now here's the fun part, incremental installation! This means that if you're on the latest ThunderHawk revision and I upload an update you can quickly and safely flash the new rom over your setup! Rather than the lengthy and questionable backup-format-install-restore process of old, the rom will simply detect your version number as the most recent and patch only the changed files. Updates will now take seconds and your data won't even be touched. The best part is, it can still install over a different rom and attempt to preserve your data, and you can still perform a clean install at any time. That's three ways to install ThunderHawk on 2 different formats!

Known Issues:
- 4G Toggle button is missing from the lock mod, to enable 4g, have to go into Settings>Wireless and Network>4G Settings>4G (turn on 4g) or get a widget from the market

You've got questions, here's some answers!

Miss Live Wallpapers? Don't really care how much battery they use?
Can't figure out how to make the battery percentage appear?
  • It's under Settings > Lockscreen Settings > Statusbar Settings
Want the battery icon, and not just the percentage?
  • Same deal as before, except you have to hide battery icon, and then un-hide it. Wait a moment.
I really miss my old transparent messaging app, can I have that back?
How do I use my own ringtone, alarm, and notification mp3s?
  1. Create a folder on your SD card called "media".
  2. Inside of that create "audio".
  3. Inside of that create:
    • "ringtones" for ringtones.
    • "alarms" for alarms.
    • "notifications" for notifications.

Thanks for another fantastic release RandomKing - this ROM makes me proud to be an Epic 4G owner :) Been running it since your release yesterday afternoon, and haven't had a single hiccup yet.

Glad you like it! Besides a few features hardware/software wise, even the Epic Touch doesn't really outdate our phone. If it outperforms ours, it's not by much, and it certainly isn't as honed, enhanced, or battery-tweaked as our well-supported Epic 4G!

:D

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

Hey RandomKing, I also wanted to thank you for this ROM. I've been running it since yesterday afternoon and I'm loving it so far. Looks just like Phoenix, which is pretty much the biggest compliment I can hand out. I'm in London right now, so can't test out data or get an accurate battery life measurement, but here's to hoping it performs as well as Phoenix did.

FYI, my Benchmarks on this ROM are pretty much what they were while running CM7, so can't get much better than that :)

Also, if we could get that black google search widget back in a future release, that would be fantastic! Thanks again!

One more reason I wish I still had my Epic just to see the quality of this ROM.

Thanks RandomKing.

Thanks RandomKing.

Maddoggin ported the lockscreen/scroll-able widget mod in from the Epic Touch and it had a few issues, mainly with the toggles. But I sorted it out, brought back in my theme, and it is a thing of beauty. Of course there's more to check out than just that... Might try to get Qbking77 to put up a video for this rom!

:D

+1 to the QBKing video idea!

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

I was curious if anyone else was experiencing what I would call a memory leak. After running the phone for about 36 hours, I noticed anything I did with the phone becoming sluggish, taking literally seconds between a press and an item being launched or a click being recognized. I went into Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Running Services, and noticed I had about 20MB of free memory remaining. I never experienced this before with any of the other numerous RandomROMs versions (Froyo and Gingerbread) before.

I was wondering, what are the chances it's the kernel vs the ROM leaking memory. I went back and read through some of the changelog for the rom on XDA, and noticed the change from the nubernel kernel to the samurai kernel. I presume I could find the previous nubernel v1 kernel, and flash it over the ROM. Would this be safe to do as a field test to track down what the memory leak might be?

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

From reading other threads, it's the kernel that has a leak. You can flash Nubernel and see if that fixes it.

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

Pretty much. I'm still working on testing all of the available kernels regularly to see if any outperforms the others. Open to input, but then again, anyone can flash any kernel at any time regardless of what I build in. :D

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

Thanks for the heads up jmuru and RandomKing (sorry I didn't go back to the XDA thread where I see it was mentioned) ;) I will trackdown the Nubernel v1 kernel (I'd use v2, but I'd miss having the video recording capability for now), and report back on what I find.

So I've gone and grabbed the v1 Nubernel - I noticed the v2 are TW (touchwiz) or CM7 based, so I imagine it would be a bit foolish to use the TW, as RandomRom, and many other Roms, are not TouchWiz based. Am I missing anything here, or is my assumption correct?

I'm getting ready to install this on meh mothers phone :p lol

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

Just wanted to report back after using the Nubernel Kernel V1 since my Friday morning post. Thus far, I've had none of the sluggishness/memory leaks I received with the included Samurai Kernel - one soft reboot where the UI goes away, and then everything redraws and the phone "chirps" as it redetects data services.

Loving this ROM - it's great to enjoy using my phone again, instead of swearing at it, or wishing I had a different device ;)

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

What a great ROM,
Thank you RK!

The only problem I've been having has been the access to the "System Updates". Im trying to reset my radio but it the System Updates closes unexpectedly right after selection.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

So even using the Nubernel V1 with ThunderHawk 3.2 EI22, I've had a few soft reboots, or the WiFi drop out on my occasionally, which is resolved by turning the WiFi off, and then turning it back on again. And after about 4-5 days straight, my phone definitely slows down/lags a bit - but not so much as to render the device unusable.

I am now trying out the ShadowKernel V1 - thus far, for the 2-3 hours I've been running it, it's been zippy as all get out - I am NOT using the V1+ - which contains the initial overclocking support. For those of you with lag, might want to check it out. I did NOT do a full clean install, but I did Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache 3x before installing via CWM 5 on my existing install of Thunderhawk 3.2 EI22.

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

is there anyway to lower the in call volume, it's way to loud

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

Forgive me if this isn't what you're looking for. In your phone, Click Menu -> Settings -> Sound -> Volume - you will then be presented with a series of volume sliders, the top one is labeled as Incoming Call Volume. Hopefully this will help :)

I have mine set at about 50%, and it works very well for me there.

Re: [ROM] RandomROM THUNDERHAWK 3.2 [AIO] EI22 | 11/30

Well, around 23 hours with the Shadow Kernel, and I experienced my first soft reboot, and WiFi dropout. The memory leak definitely seems a bit better on the Shadow Kernel. For a rough idea of my testing kernels with my normal daily usage before I experienced lag from RAM leaks and WiFi Dropouts (resolved by turning WiFi off and then back on again):
  • 4-6 hours on the included Samurai Kernel (which I think is 2.0.6)
  • 12-16 hours on the Nubernel v1
  • 23 hours on the Shadow Kernel v1 (the NON-OC version)
Hopefully this information is useful ;)
