[ROM] Serendipity

TitBu is causing it. I reflashed and left it in it's original state and it works fine.
When I restore apps with data, that causes the problems. After I restore, I reboot and the wallpaper is automatically changed according to what I backed up from Cognition. If I'm only restoring apps with data, why is it restoring system settings too?

Well, I reflashed again and restored with TitBu, this time only restoring missing apps with data. Everything seems to be working fine now. Process of elimination I guess. I'm still not sure why missing apps vs. all apps made the difference. But that's why I'm not a DEV, lol.

Thanks for your help.

While it is more rare, when the Android build changes between TitBu backup sets, I have seen it do this. Usually on a 2.1 --> 2.2 move or similar, but maybe there was a particular app that did not like the old data. It happens :).

Same setup I'm running, except I'm running the test version of Suckerpunch's successor. Works great, I definitely suggest upgrade once it's fully released (or earlier if you're daring).

thanks for the confirmation that my combo is safe haha!...I noticed and read about the new suckerpunch addition - why if i dare tho? because its new and unstable at times? haha - knowing me i will do it after writing this....worth the risk?

Keep your current kernel available as a zip on your sdcard, and the worst case, you just have to flash it back. Kernels are much safer (seemingly) than a rom flash since you just have to boot into Recovery to flash whatever.

It's perfectly stable for me, but you might find a bug. It's worth a try though, just do what loraque said.

Yeah, they seem a lot safer because there's no data saved, so it can't corrupt a flash.

LOL, so you guys are running Captivate 6.2, darn and I was going to go with Serendipity 6.2. . . good thing you guys corrected me!!

(Sorry, could not resist! ls377, just want to say you've been doing a fine job as the advisor around here and have enjoyed reading your responses and quick reviews, etc. keep up the good work!)

6.3 is live today. Added the option to remove the clock in the settings menu and some UI tweaks according to the change log- nothing huge.

The add-on kitchen and REDROM them are not yet ready to work with 6.3 though, so keep that in mind.

I flashed the bluedipity theme the other day and i can no longer overclock.
I'm running 6.3 with the Onix 2.0.3 kernel.

I really like the look of this theme so if anybody has any ideas on how to make overclocking work with this theme I would really appreciate it. I really don't want to have to pick between performance and looks lol.

Serendipity questions

I am thinking about flashing Serendipity (6.3) onto my Captivate, but have a couple of questions about the add-ons. I would like to figure out which ones I want so I can use the custom .zip file, instead of installing the files after I flash the ROM. Here they are:
1. Samsung MMS: what is this? Can't the phone send MMS's?
2. Samsung Video Player: I have never owned a stock Android phone, but from the videos of the Nexus 1 and Nexus S, I can't see a video app. Are videos watched from the music app or what? If there isn't an easy way to access videos, I will install the Samsung Video Player?
3. Samsung Clock: I've heard that this is good as opposed to the stock clock app, but what are the differences?
4: Samsung Voice Recorder: Is there a stock voice recorder? If so, which one is better?
5. Samsung DLNA: this is a cool feature of the Captivate, and I will install it if there is no stock DLNA. I just need to know if there IS a stock app, and which one is better if there is.
6. Samsung Music Player: I really like this music player, especially the cover-flow-like option, but have never used the stock music player. Which one is better?
7: Colored settings: what is this?
8: Google Talk: shouldn't this come pre-installed??? If not, could I get it in the market anyways?
9. Unthemed Gmail/Market apps: I think I'll keep the themed ones because they look really cool, but what are your thoughts?
10. Voice Dialer: isn't there already a dialer/phone app? Can't you make phone calls anyways?
11. Which battery mods do you prefer? Also, what is "include transitions?"

1. Serendipity contains the AOSP messaging app. The Samsung MMS app is just the Samsung messaging app, you don't need it unless you like it.
2. Not sure, don't really watch videos, but I think there's one on Serendipity already.
5. You need this for DLNA
7. I think this just makes the setting look like Touchwiz.
6. It's taken out because a lot of people don't use it (like the Email app).
9. Keep the themed ones. They're awesome.
10. Voice dialer is for voice dialing, not voice calls.
11. The transitions don't really have anything to do with the battery mod. They just add cool transitions to the UI.

The rest: I haven't tried them, so I don't have an opinion.

I absolutely love Serendipity, but my only problem is I hate the Gmail app, I want the stock email client, is there any way to get it?

Download SGS Tools from the market. The app has a list of stock apps you can revert to- pretty sure email is one of them.

Love it.

a few suggestions.
1. the notification bar brightness adjustment.
2.when new music is added, if you set music for any tones, they all change. not sure if this is android or the app, I use the handcent music set app.
3.when market updates itself, the theme reverts back to white.

also, when updateing fro 6.x to 6.x+ does it wipe the apps and such?

cuz if so, then a way to back up setting for apps would be cool, cuz I lost all of my angry birds scores. -_-

I have read through this site for months, and never posted, but my first rom was serendipity 6.3, now updated to 6.4. I am so impressed with it that I have since flashed it onto two friends' Captivates. Awesome.

do you need to delete all data before you flash it, or does it wipe everything when you install it??
