From XDA-Developers, Odexed/Deodexed rooted, and non-rooted versions of this recent update are available for manual download/install.

If you're rooted and running the stock ROM, you can flash this rooted update so you don't lose your root, nor any of the apps you've installed.

Odexed ss_stock_4.67.651.zip - 196.2 MB

Deodex'ed stock_deo_4.67.zip - 193.8 MB

NON ROOTED VERSION ss_stock_notrooted.zip - 195.2 MB

You should also flash the updated Radios:

Baseband 2.15.00.12.19, PRI 2.33_003, WiMax 27243 & NV 2.15_003 - 12.69 MB

these are my roms, was just about to post these here, thanks for linking to them.

the differences between odex and deodex'ed? themers choose deodex'ed over odex. there are other differences. the non rooted version has no root whatsoever, kind of like a fail safe backup, to always have stored on your pc.

i am rooted with revolutionary, still running the stock ROM. i downloaded the stock_deo zip. do i need to rename it "update.zip", and also if i flash this OTA manually, will i lose my data? (ie, should i back up everything first)?

thanks.

You do not need to rename the file, just find it in the folder where you saved it.

You will not lose the data that's already on your phone, but you should always do a backup before flashing anything.

Thanks for the input. I just installed 235, but now my. phone storage plummeted from 50 mb to 5. I thought people were experiencing an increase in free storage? Do I need to delete something? I did not rename the file as update.zip, does that have something to do with it? Wondering if not renaming the file makes the phone just install the update in addition to the existing 233 instead of replacing it...

I cant download it from dev host.... whenever I click download
around 1~2min later my page shows me time out
can you upload on any other site?

There is a lot of confusing talk in that XDA thread. I'm rooted with Revolutionary and never flashed any ROMs. I'm unclear what happens when you flash this OTA ROM. Part of the discussion makes it seem that there are problems if you are rooted with Revolutionary.

Well, I am rooted with revolutionary. I tried installing the rooted updated mentioned above, and it installed, except my phone memory dropped from 50 measly mb's down to 5mb. I thought it was maybe bc I didn't rename the file as update.zip, so I tried that, but when I flashed, it completely wiped my phone. So, I restored my Rom to pre 235 flash specs, and am back to square one. Not sure how to make this work properly.

sorry if there may be some confusion over there. basically if you are on a stock 4.54 rom, with s -off with revolutionary, your all set, just flash the stock rom over 4.54, or however you want to flash. be sure to be s-off, do not unroot. the best way of course is a clean start wiping everything, did you have specifics on what is confusing?

Reading your reply got me thinking...am I doing this correctly: I downloaded the update, then went into ROM Manager, selected "install ROM from sd card", selected the 235 zip file and installed it that way. is this correct? Thanks.

For me the confusion is around the changes to radios and what is included in the ROMs made avaialble. Plus the "wiping" thing worries me that I'm going to be starting from scratch setting up the phone again. I did already do a full backup with Titanium.

I finally rooted my EVO because I was tired of the Sprint bloatware attempting to update themselves all the time in the market and hogging space.

Maybe I'll give it a try and see what happens.

to those that have successfully installed the rooted version of the 235 update ... has anyone experienced the massive drop in internal memory that i did? it went from 49 mb to 4. methinks the update installed in addition to 233 (ie, 235 didnt replace 233).

Flashing stock rooted is perfectly safe.
You should minimally wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Wipe everything is best but it will wipe all installed apps if you do.

The updated radio has given many of us a better signal and greater data speeds.

The ota kernel is very smooth as well.

I strongly advise against updating to the new hboot.
It isn't easily gained S-off via the new hboot.

Hboot is in a flash my itself.

Radio, prl, wimax and kernel is safe.

I don't recommend rom manager or cwm recoveries.
Best to use Amon RA 2.3 or above.
Amon wipes best and flashes cleaner.

If space is a big issue I suggest backing up your SD card.
Partition your SD card and then flash a rom like Tommy's Classic Sense 1.0.
It has dark tremor apps to SD built in and installs most system files and all user apps to SD.
You will have well over 200megs free on device on first boot.

Ok. Here are the Instructions for Updating your HTC Evo 4g rooted with Revolutionary recovery. I hope some people find that this update is pretty painless and easy.

Step 1: Download one of the rooted Update Roms from Brad. Read the thread to see which one is right for you. (Thanks Brad!)
Step 2: Plug your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Select Disk Drive on your phone.
Step 3: Copy the rooted 2.3.5 Rom to the root folder of your SD card on the phone.
Step 4. Rename the file you just copied to the SD card to update.zip
Step 5. Once the file is renamed, unplug the USB cable and Power off the phone.
Step 6: While the phone is off, remove the battery for a few seconds.
Step 7: Once the battery is replaced, you are going to start in Recovery Mode by holding the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Hold them down until you see the Revolutionary HBOOT screen.
Step 8: Use the Volume Button to go to the the Recovery option. Once highlighted, press the power button. The phone will now boot to the Revolutionary Recovery console.
Step 9: Scroll to Backup and Recovery and enter into this section and backup you current Rom. (if you prefer not to backup you can skip this step, but it recommended.)
Step 10: Once the backup is finished, Go Back to the main menu and select the Update from the SD Card option. On the next screen, scroll to the Yes (sdcard/update.zip) and hit the power key to enter. The phone will now start the update.
Step 11: When the update is finished, Select Reboot Now from the menu and the phone will restart. You are now updated to the rooted stock 2.3.5 Rom.

* You will NOT lose your apps or data if you follow this method.
* This does not update the Radio, that is a separate procedure. I have great data speed and connectivity so I don't want to mess with my radio.
* I did not experience any data storage loss when performing this update method.
* No more Carrier IQ installed on this update from what I can tell.

Good luck and I hope these instructions help.

All,

I've finally decided to take a closer look at rooting the phone, but I've already received the 2.3.5 OTA update. I see some threads here that say 2.3.5 can't be rooted, and this one that seems to indicate it can be.

As I've read through other threads / stickies, I feel like I'm going in circles as I try to piece together how to accomplish this, and with some of the stickies being *very* old, I can't help but wonder if there's newer and better processes.

Because this is a corporate phone, I need to be extra careful in what I'm doing, so I especially need to make sure my exchange e-mail still works. Basically all I'm trying to accomplish is to get rid of some of the bloatware, and possibly get some occasional tethering.

I'm going to be researching other threads, but any advice, or links to the more recent & relevant threads that would help me out would be appreciated!

Thanks,
David

PS... I've got CM9 Alpha 0.6 installed on my HP Touchpad and am loving it!
