Root Explorer Question

I have a pretty simple question about the r/o and r/w part of root explorer. I know that in order to change anything, I have to mount r/w. My question is, do I change it back to r/o when I'm done? Why wouldn't I just want to leave it in r/w? or does it not even make any difference after I close root explorer?

To be honest i think once you close root explorer it reverts back to r/o. I have to change it to r/w once i go back in and make changes.
