Root for Bionic/motorola vs HTC Thund

I apologize in advance if this is a general forum question, but I am a bit confused. I currently have a droid Inc which I rooted with unrevoked so that I could have the wireless tether. That's all, I have not installed any custom roms etc.. Now does the locked bootloader of the motorolas etc.. Prevent me from doing the basic root and being able to run wireless tether or just stop you from doing custom roms. I like the thunderbolt, but think I'll hold out for the Bionic if I can at least root it. Any clarification of the differences or lack of between rooting a phone and being able to flash custom roms would be appreciated.

With the bootloader encrypted you wont be able to install a custom rom by changing the kernels. There are work arounds for this, I have a DX and can do roms but they are only based off of the current software. Long story short you should be able to root and have somewhat custom rims or just root for wireless tether purposes.

So, then you can currently root and use wireless tether on the droid x or droid pro etc... And most likely do the same when the droid bionic is released?

Correct. The Atrix 4G on AT&T, a very similar phone to the bionic, has been rooted and has tethering, as well as the droid x. I suspect that the bionic will be rooted shortly after release, but custom roms are another story.

Root as easy as Thunderbolt

I just need to root for free wireless tether assuming it will have mobile hotspot capabilities.Will the bionic be fairly simple to root like the Htc Thunderbolt?

It shouldn't be hard, there should be a "one touch" root shortly after it is out.
