So, I just bought an HTC One E8 since my Galaxy Nexus' USB port stopped allowing a charge or connections of any kind. To be honest I REALLY wanted a Nexus 5, but Sprint doesn't carry the 32gb version and I'm not about to get a 16GB phone that won't take a micro SD card. Also, you can only buy the Nexus 5 online, and I needed a phone today since my phone is my lifeline to my job and my old one was rapidly exhausting it's battery charge. So I had to go with some other phone. It was between the One E8 and the LG G3. The E8 won because it fit in my hand and the pricing was better.

Now, the old GNex was my first Android phone, and my first smartphone of any kind was a Palm Pre. So I've come from a smartphone world of doing pretty much whatever you want with the phone. (I always enabled Developer Mode on my GNex, and Palm didn't require rooting) So this is my first experience with a non-vanilla version of Android, and I have to say, I am less than impressed on my first day with Sense. While it's "ok" as far as a phone UI goes, the uninstallable "crapware/bloatware" on it and the annoying "Use our version of the exact same thing that Google already gave you" replacement apps are just unacceptable. (With the exception of the SMS app. That one thing is actually pretty nice)

So I am looking to get back that "Vanilla" android experience, but I don't see any rooting instructions available for the E8, only the M8. Can anyone point me towards rooting instructions for the E8 and a good AOSP rom? I want this sucker as vanilla as I can make it.

Thanks in advance.

There doesn't seem to be much following for the E8 in the developer community, so it's unlikely that there will be an AOSP ROM for it. If you exchange it for the M8, you have a huge community developing for it (at the cost of a more expensive phone).

Nah. no way was I going to pay an extra 200 bucks for an aluminum case and a gimicky camera. (That's the only substantive difference between the two phones as far as I can tell) What about Rooting? If I could JUST de-crapify this thing I could at least get it closer to the way I want it. Although, since the E8 is basically an M8 "in drag" as it were, perhaps an AOSP Rom for an M8 would do the trick?

How to Root HTC One E8

First of all connect your device with PC via USB cable.
Now copy the SuperSU over to the root of SD card.
Now open the command window prompt in your desktop by hold and press Shift key + Right click in an empty area of the folder and then you have to select Open command window here.
Now type the following command in your cmd prompt window adb reboot recovery.
This will reboot your mobile in the recovery mode.
After open in recovery mode, Select install and then the SuperSU.zip file.
Now Tap on swipe to confirm flashing.
Now the flashing process will start, once it completed reboot your device by tapping reboot.
Congratulations your HTC One E8 is successfully rooted.
Does it work with the Lollipop?
