Root method without adb in recovery!! Plus custom recovery included!

I used this to get root. I did a nandroid backup of my system. And then used Titanium Backup to backup my apps. So do I have all my bases covered as far as backups are concerned?

It's as simple as uninstalling htc sync and other drivers you might have previously installed to get root, installing the correct drivers, downloading that exe, plugging the phone in to the computer and running that exe

Well lucky for me - I've never attempted root yet so I don't have HTC Sync or anything else like that

Good. Go at it then. Good luck.
Being fairly new to Android (Incredible is my 1st) I was surprised how painless this went for me.

I did a nandroid backup and it seemed to go okay but at the end I got:
"No /sdcard/ .android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache...
No sdext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum..."

then the backup finished. Is this supposed to happen and that's why peeps use Titanium backup in addition to backup their apps?

Yup - just had to DL the drivers from XDA but it took all of 5 minutes to do

now I have Superuser Permissions app listed in applications!

Now to figure out what else I can do with it!

EDIT: How does one do a 'nandroid' backup on the Incredible?

How does one do a 'nandroid' backup on the Incredible?

Taken from here: Howto: Root the HTC Droid Incredible

Once the phone is in the new recovery screen, go ahead and create a Nandroid backup. Move down and select nandroid, then select backup. This will take a few minute. The backup is stored on the SD card in the directory clockworkmod/backup/

With this backup you can safely start editing your phone files. If you do something wrong, and want to restore it, you?ve got yourself covered.

One of the best features of a nandroid backup is the ability to restore just one part of the phone. Under Nandroid > Advanced Restore select the date of the backup you want to restore from, then select which partition you want to restore. For example, if you accidentally deleted the wrong files from /system you can restore just the system portion of the most recent nandroid backup. Brilliant!

I booted in to recovery but I don't see any backup or nandroid option

EDIT: Nevermind I figured it out - had to select recovery first

I was going to wait to root after froyo but I might just do it now haha

Hey I know its been covered but what does this do in terms of leaving a trace and violating warranty?? What I mean is if you for some reason you need to insurance/warranty replace your phone, does this method leave a trace that will violate those terms? Also, if root is noticeable to "the man", is there a way to revert to stock (assuming your phone isn't dead)??

Thank you I'm advanced :)

I don't have any HTC Sync installed, I put the Android USB drivers on the PC, and all I get when I run reflash.exe is "waiting for device. plug in phone now and enable USB debugging."

Any ideas?

check your device manager to make sure the android bootloader actually installed the drivers?

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to unroot without doing a factory wipe so I can get the OTA if/when it comes...

Jesus, easy and simple my ass. I can't even get it to recognize that the Goddamn phone is plugged in. Forget it! lol

dude, all you have to do is install the hboot driver once the sdk is installed. it is VERY easy if you know what your doing. all you do is select a button. how hard is that? i am not trying to be a prick but just because you are messing up does not mean the tool does not do it's job.

Sorry, I wasn't implying the tool was ****ed up....its totally a user error on my part.

umm a factory reset does not unroot your phone. also, people are working on a rooted version of the ota to apply. the problem is clockwork will not let any official zip get flashed

what's the difference between a RUU and the PB31IMG.zip file ? I'm starting to get lost in all this.

OK - I had tried doing root the old way and failed. Now I'm trying to use the awesomeness that is unrevoked, but I cannot figure out how to remove HTC Sync. Any help would be great!
