So I've been looking around, and I see a lot of questions on this, but no answers. So I thought I would jsut make one thread for the question and answer for this:

Is it possible to root, one-click or not, on a mac not running Parallels or VMWare. I don't have easy access to a Window's pc to run the files or install the SDK. I don't mind running ADB and all that, I just want to know if it's possible right now, and if not, if someone's working on it. I just switched from the Evo, and I miss my rooted wifi tether. :(

Thanks all!!

Here you go (taken from shabbypenguin at XDA):

This will install joey-krim's root and clockwork recovery 2.5.1.0
1. Download file from this dropbox link
2. Extract the archive
3. Make OSX_run.sh executable in OSX (can use chmod in terminal or preferred method)
4. Run the script
5. Win

Can someone extrapolate on step three... its where I'm getting stuck...

in order to make the macos_run.sh file into a "one click root" you need to make it into an executable file.
chmod is a computer programming command to change the file into a different type of file.

idk much about shells so i cant really give you a step by step on how to do it. i read somewhere that you can just change the file into a .command instead of a .sh and itll become a command. but when i tried that it didnt work.

if your going to be rooting your phone and tinkering with it id recommend just running windows in your bootcamp partition

thats what i did because for some reason when i tried flashing a zip fom my mac it just wouldnt work

I would recommend finding a Windows computer to use for a few minutes, or installing Windows via Bootcamp.

If you must use OSX, see the above posts. The most recent root files can be found here.

For Mac the instructions are the same except anywhere you see "double click 'run.bat'" for a Mac you should be in the terminal in the directory you extracted the zip file and you will need two commands:

chmod 774 run.sh

./run.sh

And there you go. Everything else should be the same.

For what its worth, I just used my work computer and Odin'ed a clean install and I have not experienced any of the problems some people in the forums report with force closes and things like that with other ROMs. I don't have a problem wiping everything and reinstalling. Here is a link to the Odin method. Its super easy. Some people complain their USB cable that came with the phone sucks and makes Odin not see the phone, but I never had that problem.
