Wanted to create a thread to talk about rooting the Incredible with the 2.2 OTA that may be coming out this week. From what I've read, if you install the 2.2 OTA, it will probably be a long time (if ever) before they get a rooting method to work. SO, to get root in 2.2, are the options:

1. Install Unrevoked Forever before the OTA, install OTA update, flash ClockWork Mod with Unrevoked 3.1, install su and Super User Whitelist

or

2. Gain root before OTA comes out, keep denying the OTA update, wait for a 2.2 stock image with root to come out, then load update with ClockWork Mod

?

On option 1, does loading ClockWork Mod automatically install SU and SuperUser Whitelist, or do you have to jump in recovery, mount /system, then copy the files over?

Since I rooted with Unrevoked 3, I don't know when su was actually installed.

Of course, this is all hypothetical since the OTA hasn't been released yet. Thoughts?

Yeah lol if you s-off now you have no worries because all you have to do is flash clockworkmod again and install whatever you want. However why wait on the "offical" when the devs are working on perfecting 2.2 now. By the end of the day the OTA starts rolling there will be a handful of already rooted ROMs that run much better than the official. Heck I'm running 2.2 now with no bugs, stable, runs fast, and makes me happy. The heck with OTAs anymore.......

Same here. The devs are making great ROMs. I'm not going back to stock to get the OTA, I'm loving my custom froyo and being rooted.

Agreed. Just made sense to root and get your just desserts (Froyo) without having to wait on the official OTA. You can always get that later if you really want to do so.

The stock 2.2 leak from 8/1 was buggy for me but now I'm using SkyRaider 2.5.2 with sense and yeah, it is much better.

Only problems I've seen so far are related to just 2 apps. ChompsSMS sometimes force closes, and AppLock sometimes just doesn't actually lock an app even when it's enabled.

Unless you reflashed the radio you are still running the 8/1 radio which was the "buggy" part.

I have the Incredible Android 2.2 w/ Skyraider. I supposedly saved a copy of my original ROM through ClockWork when i tried to run it I only saw the backup. Do u happen to have or know how i can get the original ROM back?

I've only did the one radio flash which gave me the 2.05 radio, should I be flashing the 2.15 radio to improve stability?

So I have to do the unrevoked forever...right now I am rooted from 3....

If I got 3 to work, then forever should be easy right?

forever is super easy, just put the file on your sdcard, reboot into recovery and flash that zip. It really is just that simple.
