Root question

I have a question. I am happy with LP launcher and my phone in general. I want to root for only 2 reasons Force ROAMING & FREE HOTSPOT. The question is can I root my phone and still use sense of do I have to "flash" a different ROM. Or am i just viewing this the wrong way totally?

YES just rooting your phone just "unlocks" your phone to do stuff like custom roms or hotspot. You dont have to flash anything, when i rooted the first time all i did was the hotspot. Unless you flash a new rom you still will have sense on the stock rom. Hope that helps you out

mhuggins is correct, but just so you know, there are also ROMs that are just stock, but rooted, and there are many Sense-based ROMs that offer similar interfaces than stock but with cool variations.

i wanted free wifi as well.

loaded up z4root which will provide a temp root until reboot. it will also allow you to run a wifi program. (i'm using wireless tether)

works like a champ.

never looked into force roaming.

I'm having the same problem Fred I want to root so bad but I don't knw anything about rooting or the word flashing or what roms mean I had my pre hacked with the preware but I thought that was much easier I whisg I had reeeeal good instructions than what u found so far...I'm ready to root just need better instructions

Just read the threads and posts in the root section for the EVO. Also watch some you tube videos on rooting. Up till January I had never rooted though I took the easier method. It opens up a whole new world for your EVO.

The mods will probably move this thread to the root section.

Coming from a pre i understand your problem but i used http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...-help-info-asking-help-updated-1-24-11-a.html and did the unrevoked method with no problems. Once you root it opens a whole lot of option and also the roms are great. I had crappy battery life until i rooted now with Ava Z3 and a kernel by Calkulin i get 10-12 hours of moderate to heavy use.(results may very ) So just READ UP on the forum over on the hack page and take the leap its great over here on the rooted side lol

Hey huggins is the roms something different that I'm gonna need after I root or that's all together once I root with unrevoked am I gonna have to look for a rom or that comes with the root??
