Root, then receive carrier updates?

Rooted my ATT S5, to be able to disable apps, and use Titanium Backup.
Will I be able to receive carrier updates?
If not, I'm thinking I will need to do a factory reset, then update, re-root, then restore my apps with Titanium backup?
Also, what about my screen layout? Will TB restore my icons?

In general, no. You won't be receiving updates. If you do, that's because the update won't be installing any changes to the areas affected by the root exploit or modified during the root process. Keep an eye on the forums for whenever an update hits. You'll likely find the best way to update with root without having issues or if possible, not having to restore back to stock.

Carrier update may fix the security flaw within the OS thus not allowing you to root again until a new site of penetration is found. Just food for thought.

If you're rooted, and you value the functionality that rooting gives you, freeze the SDM app so your phone can't OTA upgrade. Then, only after educating yourself on the merits of a new OTA release (and confirming from others if it kills root) should you think about accepting the update.

If on the other hand, you just rooted to see what it was about and don't really even know what to do with it, just go unroot your phone and let it update the next time. Freeze apps through the application manager and be done with it.

Just an FYI....
I rooted my Nexus 7 with towelroot, and it got the ota update from Google
to 4.4.4. It killed my root, but I was able to re-root again immediately with towelroot.....
