When one roots the phone does it get rid of the samsung UI or does it just allow more access to the phones core?

I actually like the UI like when typing digits of a phone number having a contacts name auto show etc.

And how hard is it to root a phone, never have done so before....

It will look the same. We don't know the complexity of rooting yet. But you can bet it will be fairly difficult and it does void your warranty.

Tmobile blocked USB Tethering and WIFI hotspot for this phone. Once connected, it will redirect traffic to a Tmobile "stay connected" up sell page.

There are a couple of opinions in these forums (see "No more free wi-fi tethering...") that suggest all you need is a proxy application...? I don't know anything about it nor do I need it.

I have PDAnet which I can use it for USB tethering to laptop. That'll be enough for what i need. For my Galaxy Tab 10.1, I just tried the PDANet for Tablet. I got it to work. However, it only works with browser. Other apps won't get internet connection.

Still, it's pity for Tmo to start blocking WIFI hotspot on this phone.
