Yep, there is root available. I just rooted mine and about to flash a custom ROM

Got my Galaxy Exhibit last week. I've installed Peach Sunrise ROM and the difference it makes in performance is mind blowing. The stock ROM on the Exhibit was aggravating, with Peach Sunrise its smooth as silk.
