Rooted Nook and stolen credit card number?

I'm hoping this is just a coincidence, but my Amex number was just stolen and it looks like it happened the same day I bought and then rooted my Nook.

Sunday I bought it with the Amex and then registered at B&N with the same number. Same day there were three bogus $1.01 charges at B&N online.

Today there was a small internet charge at some place in Florida and then a $130 charge at walmart.com.
Amex called me and confirmed these were bogus and cancelled my card.

Of course I'm trying to figure out where my number got swiped so it doesn't happen again.

Anyone else have a similar occurrence?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like someone tested the number at B&N, and then made the extra purchases... that would lead me to believe it may have been someone at the store you bought it at : / I've heard of people having similar issues at other stablishments... what a shame : /

Same here...

I've noticed a lot of random withdrawals from my bank account, too, for small purchases ($10 or less) right around the same time I bought the full version of the Launcher Pro app. Not sure if that's the actual reason or not, but I also sorta think it may be B&N charging me for books that I've downloaded over a month ago & are just now charging me. In the process of determining, so I'll keep ya posted.

Turns out the three $1.01 charges at B&N online aren't charges, just authorizations. Like maybe a B&N test to make sure the card # was good that I used to register the Nook. Three is a little strange, but it doesn't seem quite so damning now. I suppose someone could have got my card number somehow a while ago and sat on it till now.

Thanks, folks.
