I've rooted my S4 and wanted to know if there was any way to tone down the screen or calibrate it without access to the kernel?

Is there an app I could use? Thanks

When you say tone down you mean to dim the screen lower than the minimum?

I don't see that option.

I forgot to mention that I'm running a nightly build of Cyanogen Mod 10.1.

Menu-->Settings-->My Device-->Display-->Screen Mode if you are on Touchwiz.

Being on Cyanogen... I don't know how you can change the screen mode.
You can change it if you're on a Touchwiz based rom, lol.

Edit: Try Screen Adjuster from the Marketplace. You can change the color contrast a bit.
