I used TB Auto Root MR1 to root. I am wondering what I should do next. I want to try CyanogenMod or BAMF - but not sure what I should do. I have read that I should use a rom manager, but I see instructions to do it differently on forums.

I also wonder if this is a bad way to root? I already did it, but I haven't input anything on the phone yet.

Most users are using Revolutionary because it works on the latest build of GB but the auto root option works fine but it downgrades the device to root which isnt needed anymore, if you already rooted with this method I wouldn't worry because its a fine method.

I would use ROM Manager and make sure to backup your rom before doing anything and then download the rom of choice and install as developer instructs..

That method doesn't work if you were on Gingerbread. Are you sure you're rooted? Download and install Superuser app from the market to verify.

Rooting with revolutionary is the commonly used method for now. However if you are rooted you should have clockwork, most of us use that to load ROM's. Some have had issues with Rom Manager most do not have issues with clockwork. First make sure you backup your stock ROM Rom Manager will allow you to rename it (paid version). Name it stock or whatever you want. Then wipe data factory reset, wipe cache partition, go to mounts and storage and format the system, cache, data. go back to main menu and advanced and wipe dalvik cache. If you battery is 100% charged wipe battery stats too. Some advise to do these 3 times others say it's over kill it's up to you. Then flash the ROM of your choice. As far as which one to load if you like sense try BAMF if you want AOSP try the CyanogenMod. There will be many people to give you a hand in these forums. But before you do flash a ROM be sure to read read read. Good Luck!

Thanks so much everyone! I am glad. I kind of worried because I saw it on Youtube and was like...well, seems to work! Then I read about Revolutionary and was thinking I may have jumped the gun.

I think I never got the Gingerbread update - not really sure. I remember when people talked about it, I waited to see if I did and nothing ever came of it. I just did the root today. I have Superuser installed, it says Superuser v9.9.9. In ES File Explorer I already used it to rename my OTA file to prevent an OTA update.

This is the first time I've done anything like this to a smartphone. I used to mod firmware on older phones we had on ATT and Verizon so it's a new thing for me.

I used Rom Manager to backup the rom and I don't have the paid version, but it still let me pick what I wanted to name the backup. I have a quick question, I read a long thread about backing up files, but still am unsure on a few things.

Since I have made this backup of the current rom - can I remove the bloatware now, and if I need it later - I can just reflash to this backup of the ROM for it for an OTA update? I see some people save the bloatware in case they need it again, not sure why I would need it. If I am using ROMs or root, though, I wonder why I would care because I thought people generally manually do their own updates. I also read something that infers maybe you should remove the bloatware before installing any ROMS. I am wondering if people just do that just because (for more room) since I thought a ROM basically won't have anything to do with the rooted phone itself, but basically work on top of it (really not sure about that). Just trying to see what I really should do. I'll keep reading!

If you want some good advice I think after you make a backup you should flash a good ROM like BAMF Forever, which will also require you to update your radio from MR1 to the latest Gingerbread radio (the newest radio is unofficially called MR3 and officially it's from the 2.11.605.3 RUU)... no more bloatware to worry about and an excellent HTC Sense ROM.

But to answer your question, yes, you can delete the Bloatware because you already have a backup.
