I have a LG US670 (v 2.2.2, Baseband v US670ZV4.6040)

I have never rooted a phone before so this is new to me. I tried it once using SuperOneClick but got the message that it failed.

Any tips on what I need to do?

You can use Gingerbreak to root the device.
