Rooting / Airplay

Just purchased the new MotoX, its my first Android phone, coming from iOS.

I have a strong need to use Airplay to connect and stream audio to a Marantz receiver. I thought it would be easy, but it seems that there is only one solid app out there and it requires rooting the phone.

I have an AT&T version of the phone, Can I root the phone? If so how do I go about Rooting and can it be undone (assuming it voids the warranty) if I want to send it back after 14 day trial.

Thanks!

Might be easier to just get a Chromecast dongle for $35? I don't think there's a root exploit for the 2014 Moto X at this point.

Try the app Streambels. It streams locally stored media and YouTube and a few other items.

Are you sure that receiver does not have a way to stream android too? What app are you trying to stream form? Looks like Marantz has ways to stream popular stuff at least lie Spotify and Pandora.
If no your only other option would be to add a Bluetooth receiver. That way you can just connect with Bluetooth instead.

If you want to root so you can use Airplay on the Moto X I would say return yours and buy the Pure Edition. You can root that one. You would not be able to get it at a subsidized price though.

Personally I just plugged a Bluetooth receiver in mine and called it a day. It worked better that rooting and using the app. I tried the app that uses Airplay on my Nexus 7 rooted. I think bluetooth works better for Android than hacking Airplay.

Thanks for the input guys, I will check and see if the receiver is Android compatible. but i think its only Airplay

Chrome cast may be an option if I could hook it up to the receiver. Does anyone know if it will over ride the current source like airplay will?

I dont have any media on my phone so app that only stream local files like Streambels wont work for me

Bluetooth is not possible solution for me, its is limited in quality and range.

Yes, chromecast will change the input using hdmi-cec.
