Rooting and SetCPU

Would anyone be able to post a step by step instruction on how best to optimize battery usage without compromising too much speed to create settings for setcpu including settigns for the different profiles?? everyone seems to have a diff take on this subject and i dont know who is right and who is wrong

ultimately my battery still sucks after rooting on stock rom and i wana do whatever i can to save battery life (i dont have any widgets running, nothing being automatically synched, display settings minimized, bloat removed, but still ****ty battery)

This works great for me:

Advanced Task Killer set autokill to "aggressive" and to kill tasks every 30 minutes (change to when screen off for better battery life but slower turn-screen-on time)

SetCPU:
main profile: 1228MHz Max (I have the 1.2GHz Kernel) + "on demand"
screen off profile: 368MHz Max + "on demand"
Temp > 41degrees C: 768MHz Max + "on demand"
Charging: 1228MHz Max + "performance"

JuiceDefender (free) set just to the aggressive profile.

That works for me. I have auto-brightness and push notifications so if you have those off your life should be perfectly fine (mine lasts through one day pretty well).

Kernels (from personal experience only):
If you want to maximize battery life, I'd go with Adrynalyne's ver 1.9 Kernel for Sense.
Then comes the Bamf Kernel, which doesn't really compromise any battery life from regular stock but also overclocks to 1.2GHz.
Then comes Drod's 1.5GHz
Then comes the 1.8GHz
