I have rooted my htc incredible. I know its rooted. I am able to to enact superuser and do things that only can be done as rooted. The part that baffles me.......I am still getting notifications that system updates are available for download. When I go into accept....it says the system will reboot in ....so many seconds.....nothing happens... did I forget to do something.. or is this normal? Thanks for help..

well thankfully it does not let you do this, trying to install an update on a rooted phone will make it go into a boot loop... before you can updated a rooted phone you need to flash a Stock Rom. so follow the instructions in the post above

Chances are the reason it does nothing is because you removed apps off the device that were not supposed to be allowed to be removed without superuser. In order for an update to go through everything the OTA needs to update has to be on the phone and installed. I had the same issue with 2.2.1 telling me about an update every 2 or 3 days, I was lazy so I just kept going to the About Phone and clicking update just so it would shut up for a few days. I have since installed Cyanogenmod 6.1 Stable and do not worry about this anymore ;)
