Noob question. If I root my device, will I still be able to get OTA updates? And would this break root on a Nexus device? Thanks.

Normally as long as you don't change anything you will still receive the OTA update notification.

If you download an update to the OS, yes you may lose root but that can be easily done again by following the rooting guide.

There are 2 things here:

1. As long as you are running stock OS (not a custom ROM) you should receive OTA updates.

2. If you flashed a custom recovery (i.e. ClockworkMod), you will need to revert back to factory recovery to install the update without it failing.
See this post in the rooting walkthrough stickied in the rooting sub-forum:

The other option, of course, would be to wait for a dev to post a rooted version of the update that can be flashed in CWM, which usually happens within a day or two of release....
