Rooting benefits

I meant to do this a long time ago and forgot. Thanks for reminding me. However, I can't seem to get it working. First, I denied SU access. Clicked check server and auto update. Rebooted. Noticed ads in words w/ friends, draw w/ friends, and the Pandora ads/commercials. Read it needs SU access so I granted it. Rebooted. Same result. Anything else I should be doing? Also, just so I don't have unreasonable expectations assuming I get it working....really no ads (or most)? Sounds great. I generally support the devs so I don't feel guilty (and I'm sure their paid on how many downloads).

Are you making sure your host file is up to date? After downloading new apps, you have to first open those apps to allow AdFree to know it needs to update the host file. Update it, reboot, and the ads should be gone.
Missed your reply at first. That must have been the issue as I transferred back and forth between phones. One app had about half the ads blocked shortly after installing adfree, leading to my earlier post.

Thanks.

Custom roms and overclocking is what I.primarily did it for but LOVE the full backup options with titanium. Also love modding.

I know Liquid does... And assume AOKP does based on what I've read.

AdFree works 100% for me.. In fact, when I switched roms and forgot to activate it, I had NO IDEA how many of my apps had ads.

Honestly, I don't think the majority will want or need to root. The only big things are WiFi Tether and AdBlock.. Custom roms and kernals are not that big of a deal.

G.Nex is my first smartphone (yes really) and I think it has ran MUCH smoother since running Liquid or AOKP. I haven't noticed a difference with battery life at all with kernals. I was getting random reboots at least once a day before I installed another Rom. If you are not having any problems with your phone, I would suggest not to root.

IMO, custom roms and kernels are the main attraction when it comes to having root. Apps like tether or ad free are perks.

With roms you get a more awesome experience with lots of options.
Kernels give you more control over power settings and battery use and savings.

As for reboots, generally that's a radio related issue but some find that custom rooms or kernels affect reboots on their particular device.
