Rooting for Eclair and leaked Froyo DK28

i used procedure 2

As the procedure states it can fail, I would try doing the root again and see what happens. If your getting the SuperUser icon you should be obtaining root when you install/open Titanium Backup it should be asking/recognizing root access.

I rooted today by using " procedure 2". My question now is how do I get clockworkmod? Can you give me a link to where I can download it?
Also if Im not planning to put on custom roms, (I just wanted to root and flash froyo), do I really need clockworkmod? Since I have my contacts backed up on google, and I can always use odin to get back where I want, is using Titanium backup enough?

While your phone is off, hold volume up+camera+power.

If you don't want ROMs/kernels/themes, then yes Titanium Backup is fine.

I'm sorry if I am misunderstanding you. But did you mean that by holding those mentioned buttons I get Clockworkmod?

I'm new to this stuff, so bear with me a bit. I've been back and forth from DI18 to DK28 a few times so I'm comfortable with the procedures and links, but whenever I install DK28 I see that I've wound up with too low a version of Clockwork and I've read that I can't properly install Bonsai with that version. Am I doing something wrong, not understanding the docs, or is it normal to wind up with clockwork 2.5.1.0 instead of something higher. I'm not sure where this version of CW is coming from. I've used one.click.exploitivec2.5.5 as well as OneClickRootCWM3 along the way and either way, by the time I get to stock Froyo I have CW2.1.1 I'm beginning with eclair DI18

Start by upgrading to Froyo. Next download and place Bonsai v2.0.1 on your sdcard. Next download and extract OneClickRootCWM3.zip to a location on your computer. Connect your phone with debugging turned on to your computer and click on the "run.bat" file in OneClickRootCWM3 extracted folder. Sit back and relax while it installs/converts your phone to EXT4/CWM3. Remember when the process is finished and your sitting in CWM3.x.x.x you need to flash the Bonsai file before rebooting or proceeding any further. All goes well you will end up with Bonsai 2.0.1 (or latest version).

Note since this is a lot of processes your phone will be going threw make sure your battery is fully charged before you start.

I've done a back up with Titanium to my SD card. Will that still be there after this is done just in case I want to go back to where I'm at? Also, I think I read that there can be issues with both wifi and the camera after this. Has that been corrected or do I need to do something else?

Also, when I've gone to Froyo first and then tried to run the OneClick bat file, it complains after 60 seconds and won't install CW. Is that because CW is already on ?clair from when I rooted the phone? Should I NOT be rooting the phone in ?clair and going to Froyo directly from a stock DI18?

It really shouldn't matter about you being rooted already.

Odin back to stock Eclair 2.1 (DI18). Then upgrade to Froyo. Then connect your phone/debugging on and double click the "run.bat" file and give it a shot. If your computer is recognizing your phone with Odin it should be working with the ADB (OneClickRootCWM3.zip).

Try a different USB ports on your computer too.. Try the ones at the rear/back of computer/laptop those seem to work the best always.

BTW, yes anything you backup with Titanium to your sdcard will remain. Note: Don't try and restore apps/data from Eclair when moving to Froyo because there mostlikely will be some conflicts.

Thanks. I have no issues with the USB hookup. I sorted that out early on. Running the bat files and Odin both work fine. It's just that once I'm in DK28 the OneClick bat begins but then times out and completes itself saying it had a problem, but it works fine once I'm back in DI18. I'll try again probably tonight when I'm not expecting calls. Meanwhile, DI18 is working better than it ever did. I guess the restore version I Odin'd was better than what was on there before.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I powered off the phone and pressed up + camera + power, but its just starting regularly. clockwork doesn't start. I think Clock work was installed while rooting with the second method so why don't I find it under the apps and how do I get to it. Thanx so much!

Quick question.

I did the z4 root method to get wifi tether. I now want to flash roms. Is it ok to use the one clock method outlined in post one now? Or do I need to do something first?

I rooted using the method above. I am using rom manager and when I try to flash clockwork recovery I get an error saying an error occurred while downloading your recovery. I have rebooted and reinstalled rom manager and that did not work. Any suggestions?

So far I'm rooted with "procedure 2" and I'm on stock froyo. I would love to be able to watch hulu with my phone. I read on xda something about flashing some hulu zip but I'm not sure how to go about it. Is someone familiar with the process and can you tell me how to go about it? (flashing is still an unknown activity for me!)

First here is the Hulu app. Download it and place it in your root directory of your sdcard on your phone.

Hulu App and Flash Player

First shutdown you phone.

Then to boot into CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery) you press and hold Volume Down+Camera+Power until your brought into CWM (Green text with black background)

You navigate in CWM by using your volume up and down buttons and then make selections by pressing your camera button.

First thing you should always do before making changes is make a backup. Select the backup option. This will take a few minutes.

From there you will you will goto Install zip from sdcard>select zip from sdcard>scroll down and hit yes to install. The installation will take a few seconds.

Hit the back prompts to return to the main screen and select Reboot System.

Thats it! Your done. The Hulu app should appear in your app list.

After flashing the Hulu app, make sure that if Adobe Flash Player 10.1 is listed in your Market apps, you disable automatic updates. Updating Flash will break Hulu.
