Is there any way to root gingerbread 2.3.4 on the captivate?

I downloaded the 2.3.4 leaked version, but haven't installed it yet due to the above question.

You could do the fugu root. Im running the same firmware. Basically you are going to swap the kernel to the fugu kernel, which gives root access. Then you just reflash the stock kernel. Google fugu root for captivate and it should pull up something from the xda forums. This is how I got root.

If you are not tied to using the stock KH3, there are a couple ROMs built on it that include root. Pinnacle is what I am running currently, and the battery life is fantastic.

this is what i ended up doing. worked like a charm... sounds complicated to someone who had never done it before (swapping kernels) but its really rather easy

Flashed to the Boog KH3 kernel which gave me root and then flased back to the stock KH3 Kernel. My phone is fast and the battery lasts 2 days now.
