Rooting HtC Evo 4g brand new

i did its a bit confusing so im just downloading auto root full version (almost half a gig damn) i want ot do a nandroid backup for my 4g rsa keys just incase but i dot know how

Instructions:

1.This will completely wipe your phone. If you would like to back up your apps you can use Titanium backup to save them. It also has an option to save the system files but this can result in a buggy ROM afterward. z4root or possibly the included AutoRoot app (haven't tested for that yet, let me know if you try it) should work well for this.

2.First extract AutoRoot.zip into a folder that is easy to find and then open the folder. Double Click ADB and run it.

3.Double click on 'AutoRoot.bat' and let it run. If all you see is a flashing line press Ctrl+C, or close the window, to exit and re-run it as Administrator. If it can't find the phone you may have to uninstall any custom Android drivers or programs and then let HTC Sync install the Evo drivers. You can easily install Sync by mounting the SD Card and running it from the HTC Sync folder.

4.Once it finds your phone it will start by checking out what kind of setup it uses and then attempt to get root access. If it fails usually it's from too many active apps or the phone being used, if so you will need to restart it before trying again. If you are using 3.70 it will let you know when it is running by blurring the screen.

5.When it is ready it will reboot your phone into the boot loader. Then, depending on your phones setup, it will either enter RUU mode and automatically flash the debugging firmware or give you instructions on how to flash it from the hBoot.

6.If you have to flash it manually just push Power to select "BOOTLOADER" and say Yes when it asks to flash the PC36IMG.zip. It will complain part of the way through about Boot Loader and/or radio errors and then skip them, this is normal. Once it finishes say No when asked to reboot and use the Vol Down button to highlight Recovery. Then press Power to select it.

7.After a moment your phone should show a Red Triangle with an Exclamation mark inside, at this point the script will take back over and start to make a NANDroid backup. If it hangs at the White htc EVO 4G screen for more than two or three minutes you will have to pull the battery and flash the PC36IMG file again. If it still hangs the second time around then you will have to flash the RUU and start over.

8.After it finishes the NANDroid it will try to flash the Sprint Lovers ROM and Recovery if your NAND is unlocked. If it's not it will flash Unrevoked Forever to unlock it and then finish up from there.

9.When its fully rooted and you have your phone set back up it's a good idea to make one more NANDroid with everything up to date. Then make one more backup of your WiMAX just in case the first one did not turn out good.

That is the instructions you will need. You don't need the other method.

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

That is the AutoRoot file you need.

That is the PC36IMG you will need incase something happens. That will take you back to stock.

These instructions will NOT backup 4G prior to the first flash. I don't think this will be a problem but it's a good idea.

Did I say anywhere in my post that it would back up 4g? No. They said that the OP for AutoRoot was confusing. So I made it simple. But thank you for once again trying to be like my dad and correct every thing that I do.

Seriously? the post you replied those instructions to said the OP wanted to backup his 4G keys before rooting...

I'm sure everyone appreciates your help I just wanted to make it clear to the OP that this solution would not back up his 4G keys prior to the first flash like he/she wanted.

They also said that it was confusing. So I posted what I did. It was very relivent. Thank you for moderating though.

you guys are both helping me tremendously, no need to argue over anything, thanks to you both and I'll keep you updatd on my progress

I'm not moderating anything, I'm helping the OP out. Your advice was great but it wasn't they were looking for, had the OP followed your advice and then had a problem and erased their 4G keys there would be no way to recover them.

I'm glad you wrote down the steps that worked for you, I hope it helps anyone else who wants to exactly do that but I think it's important, for me personally, that when I'm helping someone I'm not giving any mis-information. Call it moderating or whatever you want but the OP just got a brand new $500 phone and they wanted to take the proper steps to ensure they would never lose their 4G keys.

This has absolutely nothing to do with you personally and I don't know why you reply with such attitude laden post when we're clearly all here to help each other.

Like I said, they were confused by the AutoRoot original post. So I took out of it exactly what they needed and made it easier for them so they wouldn't be confused by it. So yes it was kinda what they were looking for. It just wasn't ALL of what they were asking. There were other questions that they asked that I couldn't answer. So I didn't.

In windows7, browse to where you extracted the file in windows explorer, then hold shift and right click and go to open command window there.

In other windows versions just go to start, run, type cmd, hit enter and cd to where the folder is, example if the folder is extracted to c:\adb_shell type in cd c:\adb_shell

The stickies have everything you need. Refer to them through the whole process and if you have issues post them but reading can be your best friend. Next time refer to the multiple threads and stickies before starting a new one and causing more clutter.
