Rooting HtC Evo 4g brand new

im a little confused on your instructions and now its just staying on the white htc evo 4g white screen and not gonig to the black one like it was earlier

pull the battery and power on the phone by pressing volume down and the power button at the same time, when you get the menu on that screen select recovery then follow the instructions.

tell me what part is confusing and I'll get you through it.

Is the rom downloaded to your pc or did it get onto your sd? If so, boot to recovery manually (volume down + power button with the device off) and select flash zip from sd, and follow it through

its downloaded to my pc, and i cant get into onto my sd becuase when i put the mini sd in the adapter then into my pc it wont let me drag anything onto the sd becuase 'its write protected' ok i got it to the black screen with the trinagle

ok so i extracted autoroot .....now do i take the pc36img.zip(no caps) and just put it anwhere where i extracted to ?

Put your sdcard back in your phone (power it off first..) and then follow these instructions: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...oting-htc-evo-4g-brand-new-18.html#post539520

the PC36IMG.zip file should go in to the auto root folder on your PC, along with the file "adb.exe" they should be in the same folder.

from the black screen, hit vol down, or up, I honestly forget which and one option should be reboot. Where does that get you to?

i put it into the zip folder of autoroot2.2 should i extract that now( the extracted version was extracted in many different files so i didnt place it there becasue there was no specific place ot put it)

also when u say open a command prompt do u mean hold shidt and right click, and if thats what you mean which folder should i do that to

thnx a lot srry for my lack of knowledge I'm sure it must be frustrating .. it's definitely frustrating for me

do NOT unzip that file, never unzip it, the EVO reads zip files and it's made to work that way.

so put the PC36IMG.zip in that folder then do the adb push commands I typed out.

Yes, that's what I mean by command prompt.

No problem, we all have to start somewhere.

Lol i gave up!! I tried about three times from the PSA and i just got lost :/

I'm the type of guy that needs to see it being done :P

there can only be one there. after it's on the card power off your phone, put the card back in the phone if you need to at this point, then hold the volume down key and the power button until the screen with the white menu loads.

release your fingers at this point. The phone should pause for a few seconds while it finds the file on the sdcard, you'll notice a progress bar on the right hand side of the phone as it scans it, after it's done scanning, press volume up to start the update (if your phone just booted to a menu, select "bootloader" with the volume keys and then power to enter it, then it will scan).

ya you can skip the key backup...plus using this method which uses amon ra recovery...it also backs up your keys in the nandroid.

and yes since you went back to stock all your settings are back to factory so you will have to turn on usb debugging again.
