Rooting HtC Evo 4g brand new

ya you can skip the key backup...plus using this method which uses amon ra recovery...it also backs up your keys in the nandroid.

and yes since you went back to stock all your settings are back to factory so you will have to turn on usb debugging again.

thanks ok so go straight from 6 to 11?

7 and 8 include z4root and backing up rsa why is that temporary root neccesary or z4root at all if i already have rsa keys backed

so you can do step 11.

edit...it prolly would be best just to do it all regardless of already having a backup...that way you get a lil more practice...and whats an extra backup gonna hurt.....that way the guide is followed by step by step to make sure there is no mistakes made.

ok im about to give it another shot sigh... wish me luck

good luck....just follow it step by step and you will not have issues...make sure usb debugging is checked and allow installation of non market apps is checked...

I apologize about the comment I made last night.... I had a few cocktails and thought I was being funny. Ill keep an eye on your posts and offer input if I have any. :)

Hey Fred, I'm following your steps here and the cmd comes back and says "error: device not found." Not sure where to go from here; I can not get my evo 4g to go into recovery and I too am stuck on the triangle screen...

Hey, I'm not sure what you're following here, are you using the root guide with screen shots I made?

Help Please: My phone is stuck on the triangle screen too:(

Fred, Sry, that wasn't clear. Here what I should have said:

Hey Fred, I?m following your steps (listed below) to try and recover my EVO 4g. The cmd comes back and says ?error: device not found.? Not sure where to go from here; I can not get into recovery and I too am stuck on the triangle screen?any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

This is good news. That's recovery. :)

I know you're having a hell of a time here but don't worry, you can come out of this for sure.

Now the auto root zip you got from the XDA thread, I want you to copy the PC36IMG.zip RUU file that you have and put it in the folder the zip from XDA was extracted to.

Now with your phone on the red triangle screen, open a command prompt in to the folder and type this:

This will take some time to copy over but that's OK, when it's done type:

When the phone comes back up in the white menu, it'll either scan the sdcard and ask if you want to apply the update, hit volume up for yes, if it's just a menu, select "bootloader" with the power button.

When the update is done, select Yes to reboot, your phone will now be stock 3.7

I fixed it on a windows xp pro box.

1. make sure HTC sycn drivers are loaded. When you plug the USB in you should see

HTC device in the device manager (I had the drivers install but I uninstalled HTC

sync; I did not try it with HTC Sync installed)

2. Download this file RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.3_Radio_2.15.

00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_157088_signed.exe

They won't let me post the link, but if you add (http)] to:

shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/

you might have to try it a few times to get the entire file (196mb) to download,

and it is slow (40-60 mins).

3. Once the file is downloaded, lauch it, and then plug in your EVO, and just

follow the prompts. The process takes 10-20 mins.

Viola, your back at the newest stock rom.

I'm glad you're back up and running, the latest RUU is version 3.7 though, so make sure to update if you want to go that way!
