Rooting in OSX - update... issue rooting with All-in-one toolkit.

Have an at&t One X and, like everyone else, am getting incredibly frustrated with the delays on updates. That my phone is particularly buggy makes rooting seem like the only viable option if I am going to live with this thing for another 15 months. Unfortunately, my firmware is 2.20 and the only computers I have regular access to are apples. Does anyone know of a "noob proof" method of rooting that I am somehow just not able to find on the web?

Alternatively, I could probably borrow a computer from a friend for an afternoon, but if I run into any problems in the future, will I be out of luck until I can get on a windows computer again?

Re: Rooting in OSX.

Find a friend or family member that will let you use their pc... the all in one toolkit is the easiest way to unlock, root and put your first rom on..and it doesn't work on osx... they process takes anywhere from 20 min to an hour.. I suggest you s-off the device as well..this will allow easier flashing (not needing to flash boot.img from pc)

Re: Rooting in OSX.

xda has guides on how to do this on a Mac. It in fact is easier in my experience than Windows because you don't need to mess with the drivers, just making sure you have the latest SDK and know a bit about tge Terminal...

Re: Rooting in OSX.

Thanks guys for the help...

I got a PC hooked up in my office for a few days and I just *tried* rooting using the all in one toolkit and am wondering if I can get some further help. Once I got to the unlock bootloader screen on my phone, the phone froze. I pressed the power button and it took me to my regular lock screen where nothing has changed. So, a sigh of relief, but I'm still not rooted. Any ideas as to what may have gone wrong?

I'd like to give it another shot tomorrow, but at what point in the process do I have to start over again if I've already succesfully submitted my Token?
Do I have to run the exploit and get a new token, or can I just start here:

Step 12

In the command prompt type: fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin.

Thanks!

I think you just needed to toggle with the volume button to choose "yes" and then press the power button. It defaults to "no" so therefore nothing changed when you pressed the power button.

You do not need to get another unlock code and can just start back where you suggested. After you're unlocked you'll want to install recovery (TWRP) and then permanently root using the button in the kit.

Heh... um, yeah... I did not try using the volume buttons. Someone should compile a reference list of all the dumb mistakes people make while rooting.

Yes. You will want to do that with Sense ROM backups in general. Very large :). Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the help...I am rooted!

Running the latest version of viper and am loving the changes so far even if the amount of tweaking you can do is a little bit overwhelming at first.

Yes, I thought so too, I found it best not to go through all that was available at first. Just get things setup, then poke around with one thing at a time. It is not so bad as it seems at first, as most of it is entirely optional. Once you get it set, make another backup before you go and do too much, so you have a safe spot to restore to. Make sure you can get to Recovery with the button code reliably, and you are always just a few minutes away from restoring, no matter what mess you make of your phone ;).

If you have the knowledge since your on a borrowed computer. You can make the backups save them to the PC and transfer to a usb memory for future use also.., along with the download and the AOI setup. Then if you ever get a laptop or a windows desktop put the usb memory on the windows PC. To free my desktop up I work the phone and what I want to do with it on my desktop and then transfer it all to a old lap top I have and restored to factory settings. I use that for backup storage and keeping all the phone files and downloads on. Personal experience with the HOX is about one or two backups with the zips for the roms along with the apps that I use daily, there is about 2.97 gb used of 9.93 gb. Running ViperXL 3.2.5. ElementalX 5.0 vanilla and 2.41 radio. S-OFF

Hello all. I have a question. I followed the instruction on Hassoons one x toolkit to unlock the bootloader on my one x evita a.d ran into a problem. When I submitted my token ID, I received my unlock bootloader keyfile. What do I do with this file to unlock my bootloader? I am an older guy with a little bit of computer skills trying to root a phone for the first time. This is driving my crazy that I can not figure it out. Thanks in adavance for any replies.

You have to place the token file in the same folder that the toolkit is in. Then keep on following the steps in the toolkit, "5. submit token I'd" is the next step.

Thanks edukated. I will check it out when I get home tonight.

When you have this unlock bin.code, safe it on your computer , you can use it over and over if your going to reunlock and unlock the bootloader for any purpose. The All in One Tool kit on the left side has a button to use the unlock bin.code. It will send it to the phone then you will get a screen on that says your warranty will be voided if you proceed. At the bottom is a yes and no radio button which you navigate by the volume up and down buttons on the side. If you choose yes use the power button to make the choice then it will reboot into home screen and your semit rooted. Go back to the All in One Kit, and on the right side flash recovery , then go to recovery and tap the install button and go down the list of files and find super Su .zip at the bottom and choose that , it will flash the file and reboot.

Thanks Leesumm. Sorry for the late reply. I bought a Nexus 4 in the meantime but I am sending it back. I will try to unlock and root my one x again.

Thanks again Leesumm. I finally got the bootloader unlocked. I had been trying for a month or two to get it done. That is why I picked up a Nexus 4. I had it unlocked and rooted on the second day. I am not too impressed with the N4 so I am returning it. The one x suits me better.

After unlocking my boot loader I tried to root my one x. I ran root checker from the play store, and it seems it is in complete. I guess I will have to unroot using the toolkit and try rooting again.

IF you are using the AOI toolkit and have the unlock bin.code. Start at step 4 on the left side of the toolkit. then go to the right side and flash recovery (either your custom or twrp) twrp is the prefered recovery and a version lower than 2.4 you might have to search the XDA forum to find the versions. Th e toolkit will flash the 2.4 version. After flashing the recovery go down to extras and flash perm root that will send superuserSU to the recovery. Reboot in recovery and go down to the bottom of the list and flash the superSU zip. That will put superuser on the phone and permanently rooted. After rebooting superuser might ask to update, do it that will update the binarys in superuser. You should go ahead and do the Facepalm S-OFF and then you wont have to flash boot .im when flashing rom zips.
