I have been looking high and low on how to root this phone and have not had any success. Anyone find anything out there. I like this phone and want to keep it but I have to have root.

None of the Gingerbread exploits work. None of the methods for the LG Nitro work. I am returning mine tomorrow morning. I love the phone... just have to have root.

I agree I have to have root as well. At the least for backup. Don't know what it will take for some developers or hackers to get their game on. The revolution got some dev love and it was not even near as good as this handset. But I am willing to donate some cash to this endeavor if a Dev comes up with a way to root this hand set. If it were me with these skills I would want to do it just to prove I could and bear them at their own game. I am serious anyone interested can PM me

I'm downloading the only firmware I can find being hosted on the LG server. We will see if it is an older version or not.

Well, 4.04 is being actively hosted in their repository, but I was able to dig for a link to 3.02. I'm waiting for the file to finish to confirm it is in fact 3.02 and not just a bad archive name.

Could someone explain what was meant by downgrading. Also how would we accomplish this. I tried it as is now and didnt work. I assume the key has something to do with down grading????

Downgrading means flashing a version earlier then the 4.04 version that ships with the phone. I was able to find a 3.02 firmware, but the flasher is written in french and I'm not sure if I fully trust it. I will be doing more work on it once I know a Verizon store will be open and I can feign ignorance if something goes catastrophic.

Sorry to hear you returned it. What you get in its place?

Nothing.

The Razr Maxx is actually a nice looking phone and would serve me well but I cannot downgrade to that screen (ugh!)

Just going to wait and see what quad-cores are coming out. Might be several months before I get a new device now.

I figured but wanted to clarify. This is my first LG device. I have had several HTC devices and a few Samsung. I have rooted and used custom ROMS. But as I eluded to I never had owned a LG device and wanted to make sure I understand what they were saying. Please let me know if you get it downgraded and how you did it.

Thanks wanted to clarify what was being described. I have owned several HTC and Samsung devices and have rooted them all and most I ran custom ROMS on. This is my first LG device Let me know if your get the device downgraded and how you did it. I really need root so I can get titanium backup on here

yea I tried the Droid Razor and I could not stand it. Motoblur made me think I was downgrading to pre- 2.0 versions of Android. Also for being a Motorola device the signal strength was not that great. Over all the device for what was under the hood was disappointing. At times it lagged and I was also disappointed by the camera. The over usability of the Droid Bonic was much better. Hope the quad core phones come soon. I have a ASUS transformer Prime and love it.

hey guys, just stoppin in to say hi, wanting to know if there was a way to root the phone yet... saw the downgrade method, seems rather sketchy....

I played around with that method this morning for about an hour and could not get it to work. Worse yet, ADB now kicks me out of shell every couple of seconds. I will need to figure out what happened with that. If anyone else gets this working, I would love to know.

yea I tried the method hpchoi411 posted over at rootwiki. I also had trouble using his method. Asked him to explain better but didnt get much help. So I am going to wipe my developer box and reinstall Android SDK and ADB etc. Still wanted to know which LG usb driver he used have not gotten an answer yet.

While wading thru the XDA forums, it seems that a lot of phones released in the last week or so, or that have gotten OTA updates are now immune to Zerg and Gingerbreak. While this sucks that people are losing root, this brings me hope that developers will now focus on finding a new exploit now that the old ones are patched.
