I have some questions regarding rooting my GN.

First of all...what is the simpliest and easiest way to root? Is there a automated program that will do this for me?

Second, I understand that rooting my phone will wipe all data so I should backup photos, etc. Is this correct?

Third, I am interested in rooting only. I have no interest in flashing a custom ROM. I want to stay stock. If I am rooted will I continue to get OTA updates as long as I am still stock?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

You'll learn more doing it this way (and it's not difficult): http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...ock-bootloader-root-verizon-galaxy-nexus.html

This way is probably the easiest: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...s-root-toolkit-v1-5-3-updated-08-18-12-a.html

They both work. Best advice is to thoroughly read the directions BEFORE you start. It's like baking brownies from a box...if you follow every step of the directions, in the order given, you get great brownies whether your a great baker or not. If you decide to change a few few things or just don't pay attention to the very simple and clear directions (in other words, you're an idi0t), you end up with a big brown mess.

Unlocking the bootloader is what wipes ALL data (including your virtual sd card). so yes, back up your photos/music/etc. Wiping your sd card is a one time thing. If you later decide to flash new ROMs (requiring you to wipe data), it will not wipe your sd card. As to not wanting to flash ROMs, I don't know why you would choose to deny yourself this pleasure. You're not running untested nuclear launch codes. For the most part, they consist of the latest base code (that Verizon is typically one or two versions behind), plus fixes for known bugs, plus some cool enhancements that you can choose to use, or not.

As far as not getting newly released OTAs, there is another thread in here somewhere about that.
