hello, i am looking to root my Evo now, and wanted to know what types of data i will need to back up. btw, i am new to rooting..!

I backed up my contacts and texts. But i'm guessing the factory reset will wipe my photos, apps, its data (like game level..), things like that. If i wanted to keep my photos, apps and data, what can i do?

I read the rooting FAQ and it told me to download appbrain, but I'm not sure how to do so, since I could only find appbrain market from the market which I guess is just another form of android market?

Oh and also... i don't have internet at my apt, and I am using the easytether pro to do all my internet things. But since that app is not gonna be working during the rooting process, do i need any type of internet access during the rooting??

Sorry for all the questions... and thanks in advance!!

Yes, the factory reset will wipe all apps, data, etc from your phone. However, things like pictures, music, and any files you have downloaded are all stored on your SD card and will not be erased.

You can use AppBrain to save your apps, but all it really does is keep track of what apps you have so you can download them again from the market. This means you will lose any data saved in those apps. A better option is Titanium Backup. TB actually backs up the app and its data to your SD card so you can restore them after a wipe. There is one catch though, TB requires you to already be rooted. So, you can do a temporary root using Z4 Root and then use TB to backup your apps. After that, you can do a full root and restore your apps with TB.

As long as your contacts are synced with your Google account, they will be automatically restored when you sign back in so you don't really need to back them up but I guess it doesn't hurt to have an extra backup. Also, I've never understood why people think they need to backup all their texts but I guess that's a personal preference.

As long as you already have all the required items downloaded, you don't need an internet connection to run the root process.
