So I want to be able to use my wifi teather with my unlimited data plan. Sounds like rooting is the only way to make this happen. So with that in mind what is the best/easiest way to root. Links and step by step would be greatly appreciated since I have never rooted before!

Mind you, the current process for unlocking the bootloader is sensitive. If you make a mistake you are going to brick your phone. Follow carefully and you will be fine. So far there really isnt an easy way to unlock the bootloader so you can root.

Rooting is always easy to me (heck it's what I do) but Damn is this one a mission lol.

If you guys ever need some fast assistance you know my gtalk.

I'm going to remember your name on here for when I decide to man up and unlock/root mine. Gotta love verizon and how they lock stuff down. The earlier DNAs could have just used the original tool kit made by a dev on XDA but since then you haven't been able to.

Hopefully I can get my new laptop by the end of the month so I can start remotely rooting again.

Rooting can be done and there are a handful of mods / roms but truly nothing to get excited about. I'd rooted but ended back at stock since nothing fixed the few issues I'm having. Also content providers are becoming a bit more sophisticated, HULU/TimeWarner would not play due to root. One reason I'd rooted previously was to overclock (ran tbolt at 1.4ghz) but since this device has such good speed as is there is no need.
That all said, once you unlock your bootloader and get your token you can then bounce back and forth as desired (save the token). Once you've unlocked the bootloader it will indicate 'tampered' even f you relock, so while vZ prob wouldn't check this on a return it certainly in principle voids your warranty. though I've sent root phone back in previous years with issue.

CyanogenMod is the only thing that will make me want to root. AOSP is still a work in progress so I'm patiently waiting on stock. Hatka DNA ROM on xda-developers is looking pretty tempting though.
