either way, use Revolutionary, takes a lot less time and much easier. it also let's you keep your data.
If the user is on stock MR1 or MR2 roms, revolution doesn't work on Froyo roms..
why would you think that? I looked on the Revolution site and it says nothing about not working on Froyo. the device comes with froyo, so I don't see why they would say the tbolt is supported if it wasn't meant to be able to root a stock phone. public:revolutionary [RootWiki]
also, according to Jcase, you should be using Revolution instead now:
[ROOT] MR1/OTA PermRoot + Unlock Bootloader - Safer/Easier 5/12/2011 - xda-developers
I used revolutionary last night to root my wifes phone and it does work nicely.
Not saying it wont work but it only shows MR1 and GB RUU version, unless I missed something a user with the latest MR2 can not root without downgrading to MR1 *That's all I am saying, the point was to make it simple.
Which ever method works for you.. Its all good
I rooted it but my buddy says its not rooted?
I really do not think you have to downgrade to MR1 to root with Revolution, which makes it the way to go. a few clicks and your phone is rooted without losing any data. I was supposed to test this on a friend's Tbolt last week but she went on vacation and I wasn't able to get to it in time.
I've rooted quite a few times with the auto-root method that droidxcon posted (I helped him test it), and while it does work fine, it just takes quite a long time to finish. JCase even said to use Revolution going forward, whether you are on MR2 or not.
yes, either method will work, but Revolution is much easier and less time consuming than the auto-root method.
What did you use to do it? Which Method?
I will have to try this so I will be sure because the link posted above ([ROOT] MR1/OTA PermRoot + Unlock Bootloader - Safer/Easier 5/12/2011 - xda-developers) for MR2 instructs you to run the downgrade flash in the first step... I may just try the new release and see if it does it without the downgrade because that will save some time for sure.. I believed that only 2.11.605.0 was only one that roots without wipe.
Step 1
First, download these files:
Downgrade RUU PG05IMG_downgrade.zip ( (md5sum : aae974054fc3aed275ba3596480ccd5b) THIS IS THE DOWNGRADE RUU USED IN STEP 4:
Thanks for info, I will flash back to try it later..
Revolutionary works with MR2, no need to downgrade. I used it a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly and did not wipe any of my data or downgrade me.
This depends if they are still running stock rom or updated to the leaked signed GB 2.11.605.0 rom..
If stock follow this method..

If running leaked signed GB RUU...
