I'm rooting my friends thunderbolt whats the best way to do it?

Best is always a subjective... two sticky threads here are proven... ADB, and the Auto Rooting... others will say other processes... but I prefer ADB... it takes a little longer, but it's fairly simple and it has good checks along the way.

This depends if they are still running stock rom or updated to the leaked signed GB 2.11.605.0 rom..

If the user is on stock MR1 or MR2 roms, revolution doesn't work on Froyo roms..

why would you think that? I looked on the Revolution site and it says nothing about not working on Froyo. the device comes with froyo, so I don't see why they would say the tbolt is supported if it wasn't meant to be able to root a stock phone. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary

If a user does not know about rooting and have MR2 installed may be more confused using Revolutionary MR1 method because they wont know how to downgrade to MR1 or better yet get into Bootloader, the auto method will boot device into Bootloader when needed and I just think it would be safer for a user that isn't root savy. That is all I am saying..

Also the site points out a HBoot build that it supports, just because it supported on version of OS doesnt mean it supports all because the HBoot usually is updated also when a update is pushed, this is why you have to downgrade first because they do not have a working exploit for MR2.

Not saying it wont work but it only shows MR1 and GB RUU version, unless I missed something a user with the latest MR2 can not root without downgrading to MR1 *That's all I am saying, the point was to make it simple.

I've rooted quite a few times with the auto-root method that droidxcon posted (I helped him test it), and while it does work fine, it just takes quite a long time to finish. JCase even said to use Revolution going forward, whether you are on MR2 or not.

It was rooted,my buddy didn't know how to gain root access on one app.

Revolutionary works with MR2, no need to downgrade. I used it a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly and did not wipe any of my data or downgrade me.

yea man, I rooted a friend's tbolt using the old method then saw revolution right after I had done it... 40 min wasted!

I just got my replacement phone with the newest firmware updates on it a few days ago, I used the 1 click method in the stickies section and it worked perfectly it only took about 30 minutes.

I understand that using revolutionary will not wipe data however isn't the point of rooting your phone to put a new rom on it anyway or at least the d bloat rom? so what does it matter if you lose your data? Just my thoughts

If you have had the phone a while before rooting it is nice to keep contacts and other things, when you flash a custom rom all the bloatware is removed for you...love the DEVELOPERS!
