An old rumor says the larger Pixel 2 will feature smaller bezels, front facing speakers and no headphone jack... while the small Pixel 2 XL is almost identical to the first gen smaller Pixel.

New rumor is that both look the same and have the exact same relative bezels, same aspect ratio and they both share the same audio features. Last sentence means they both have audio jack or front facing speakers or neither of them do.

In line with last year, the new rumor suggests that we have a 5" and a 6" device, only differences are display resolution, screen size and battery size.

YaY :D , I glad the Pixels will be like last year ,with just the difference being the ,,display resolution, screen size and battery size

if this is true i will buy the pixel 2. i was a fan of big phone(mainly for playing clash of clans & other games). dont play games anymore so that straw is gone.
its hard to use one hand and for my needs although i think 5.2 would have been better

Yeah this year's small Pixel is just under 5" diagonally.. allegedly.

Good Grief :-\ .I guess I back looking at the XL 2 ....again , ha

lol

who decided that these tiny annoying bezels were a requirement anyhow?

I don't mind side bezels or top being minimized but bottom bezel height affects the amount one has to move their thumb down when swipe typing one handed so I have my limits on how thin it can be.

It's a marketing gimmick, gives them something to promote and people will believe the hogwash.

They're not a marketing gimmick at all. Bezels are wasted space. Smaller/no bezels are a better use of space and look better. The larger the phone is, the smaller the bezels should be. Imagine how massive Samsung's 6.3" Note 8 would be if it had the screen to body ratio of the original Pixel...

I see the bezel debate like I do debating picture frames vs. gallery mounts for wall art. More different than unequivocally better, especially for smart phones, particularly as you approach the extremes.

Bezels are wasted space...to a point, Samsung has crossed the line from shrinking bezels to absurd curved screens that can't accept tempered glass screen protectors (unless you like goofy fitting products), heck I can't even get a decent one on my S7.

Put your phone face down much? Ill fitting cases? Bezels are small enough now, the rest is super marketing efforts that work. These companies don't sit around thinking of how to promote their phone that has the same size bezels as last year, they shrink/curve them, tout their benefits, slick marketing campaigns and voila...sales. This is bottom line driven, corporations are singular minded in their goals, they'll do anything for sales even if it's not practical.

Nope. Bezels aren't "wasted space"; they're negative space, like the gutters between columns of print or a frame around... anything to look at or through. Even if the bezels aren't home to cameras, sensors or speakers, they're still part of a design and serve a purpose.

But I agree about the inverse relation between phone size and bezel size, but really only because larger phones should allow for more space for arranging internals, assuming that some chucklehead isn't also trying to make the phone as thin as a possible.

We have a giant thread dedicated to bezels. Can find a link if you guys want it.
