First time today I tried the GPS navigation/map (Google Map)
I was able to cut the map of the area I wanted to travel to (about 50mi sqare) and store it on the tablet.
it worked perfectly.... not the best GPS I have seen, but nevertheless, acceptable.
Then I started some music I have on the tablet with the Play Music.... again, everything worked as it should.... but it stopped the GPS from running.
Stop the music, the GPS is back.... but the music is gone.

it is either one or the other, but not both at the same time.....
It looks like my N7 cannot walk and chew gum at the same time...

Normal??

I've never tried that myself, but I don't think that should happen. Do you have any Developer Options on? There's one option for "Don't keep activities," with a quite violent description of "destroying every activity as soon as the user leaves it."

Certain apps won't stay completely in memory. Google Play Music should keep running in the background, though. What happens if you open Play Music, start a song, then press Home, then open Maps? The Music ought to continue, and you should see the Play Music icon (the headphones) appear in the Notification Bar.

If you use the back key to switch it may shut some apps down. Try using the home key. Also, Google Play music may shut down on mine too. I use Poweramp which stays on. So does Pandora.

There may be a conflict between maps while in navigation mode and Play music. Both want access to the speakers at the same time.

Good point! That's worth testing out.
