I know that Clockwork Mod is the defacto Recovery on just about every device. I recently spent some time Rootin' n' ROMin' my sisters VZW Droid 2. The CWR available for that is version 5.0.2.0 were ours is v1.2518,6....I dont know how to compare the 2 but the D2 CWR seems to be a little more refined. And ours hasnt seen an update of any kind is at least a year. But since its better than amonRa, and did everything i thought i needed done, I never really cared to look for an alternative. But turns out, there may be another horse in this race.

While I was searching wikiRootz for D2 ROMs I came across RZRecovery. The thread lists the Optimus S specifically as working and it seems to be in active development. After reading about some of the added features over CWR I have to wonder why its not more widely used. Now, I know clockwork is solid, but im one of those "if it aint broke, fix it till it is" kinda guys. So I figure ill give it a shot...unless theres something im missing. so thought id better ask around before i go flashing blindly. Anyone have any experience with RZRecovery? If I flash this recovery will it affect the stability of the ROMs available here? Thanks for your input.

I understand the addiction to bleeding edge. I can also tell you that sometimes a well customized port or fork has loads of stability over the latest and greatest with minimal testing. I can't say my Xionia recovery lacks anything I can think of. That having been said, I am curious to see what results you and others have with this.

All I can say is that Xionia Clockwork Mod is fully supported by the Devs here. It works.

Just look at all the rom manager bricks. this new recovery is listed as experimental. Does not scream stable.

I'm still researching this fastboot thing... From what I can garner, it's deliberately disabled in our firmware. I'm looking into patches done to the files in the firmware for the optimus ones to see if they can be used in our firmware.

Awesome, fastboot huh...i dont know much but Ill have to read up on that. It would be cool to see RZR functional...there are a few features id really use. namely, setting backup file names.

Well, to be honest, there's really nothing on RZR I could use. Xionia does everything I could want. You can rename your backups while in the ROM. When you connect your phone to your computer, you can see the clockwork folder on your sdcard. I just edit the names of the ones I'm most interested in and move the rest to my computer.

Yay!!! Got it to work!!! I looked at the download links on the first page and it links the Optimus S with the thunderg recovery for the Optimus One. That's what I've been doing wrong the whole time. I just flashed the thunderc recovery image for the Optimus V and it booted into recovery. Hardkeys are not reversed, but the controls are a tad touchy. Graphic drivers are the old ones, so I had to use screencast, but it's there and it works. You'll have to make a nandroid folder and move your backups to it.

Nice! Now we need something cool like 4EXT or TWRP 2.0 on the Optimus S.

Side note: Have you tested the supposed "touch scrolling" yet?

no... I got it to load, went thru the menus and decided I liked xionia better. I'll piddle with it this weekend, when I can devote the time to bricking.... ;)

Thats pretty smooth....so what, the link was talking ya to the thunderg recovery instead of the thunderc?

totally, I like the way you think man. For so long i thought xionia was all there was, but now that I've looked around a bit, I see there's quite a variety of custom recovery solutions available. And I wanna try em all....I love open source :-)

It was the thunderc I decided to use. It's the "Optimus V" link. I had to use screencast to be able to see the recovery (I have new style LCD). I've had to boot into recovery during my day, so I'm kinda leery of using it.

Just as a side note, Xionia works perfectly. I've used different recoveries and I always come back. I was using yet another recovery lastnight and tried a nand recovery. Phone bricked on me and I had to spend a lot of my pre-work sleep time trying to fix it.

ive noticed the optimus v and S are pretty similar. I know a lot of thekravens unofficial cm7 comes from theV.
And thanks, thats some solid advice. Last thing you want to fail is the thing you rely on when things fail.
