S Pen drawing question

I've started using the s-pen drawing apps like notes, penup, and coloring. All these apps that give full access to all the drawing functions, like the oil brush and watercolors, either give you the coloring book style outline to draw on or just a blank page.

Does anyone know if there is a way to use a photograph from your gallery as the "canvas"? I know you can draw on a photo, but the full set of art tools isn't available.

Tap on the paperclip and choose image.

I tried that in samsung notes, but it doesn't let me use the full set of art tools, like oil brush and water colors.

Have you tried with the older S-Note app? Mine came across from my Note 4 with all the options I had installed. It works with all brush choices with that app. There is a thread around here somewhere discussing how to install the older app and some extras for it. Is the Art Rage app still available? It worked great like that.
