S-pen malfunction on Samsung Galaxy Note 5

My s-pen stopped working entirely. I've checked the settings and it is turned on. I've attempted the click the buttons on the pen and still nothing - no sounds, no air commands - nothing! Restarting my device has not rectified the issue. Any clue as to why this thing has malfunctioned?

Have you tried using another S-Pen (perhaps borrow one from another Note user or take it to a mobile shop and try one of theirs)?
