S10+ 512GB lagging/freezing up after opening camera

Recently my S10+ has been playing up. On many occasions, when opening the camera, which I tend to do by double clicking power, the phone will become slow, jerky and unresponsive. The onscreen and physical buttons cease to work and the image on the screen freezes and sporadically updates. The only way to recover is volume down and power to force restart.

I've cleared the camera app storage/cache and I've booted into recovery mode and wiped cache partition. This hasn't fixed the issue. I may be wrong but I think it started after the Android 10 update.

Can anyone offer a fix or some advice? Am I going to have to reset?

I too have had some issues after the A10 update. Mine have centered around data connections but it was a big update and as anyone who's been on Android for a few devices knows, they don't always go smoothly. Initially I'm tempted to ask if you are sending photos to the cloud, whether that be Google Photos or Samsung's offering, and deleting images from your device? I ask this because apps can get bogged down and then they start acting up, and it sounds like you might be quite the picture taker. So far it sounds like you've done all of the usually prescribed stuff. The only thing missing is the one thing we may both need to do which is the dreaded Factory Reset. I have seen a few with my issue and like you I've done all of the usual stuff, but I'm hesitant to go the last mile, even if I do believe it is what I need to do. Move as much as you can to the cloud, get as much as you can off of the device, then try clearing the cache and data for the app again and see if that helps. See what other advice comes in...

I'm not using cloud storage. Everything goes internal. I also regularly backup and delete photos from the device. I was wondering if there is some picture optimization setting I can turn off to help, as it only seems to be the camera that causes it. I don't really take many photos or play around in the camera app. I even set the device to high speed, so am suffering battery wise, but it doesn't help.

Have you clear data, cache, force stop the camera ? I seen only cache you mentioned.

Iv'e clear the storage/data too. I haven't force stopped but have to reboot the phone. I don't really get the chance to force stop as the phone locks up.

I'm worried I'll go to the trouble of resetting and still have the issue. Maybe an S20 is on the cards, or given the way Android is getting locked down I'll look further afield.

I would do in that order, possible might have to do a factory reset , it happens. I wouldn't try upgrade everytime my phone has a issue need to find the cause as the s10+ is a very good phone, also try safe mode maybe another app like snap chat causing this it has for other users in past .

There is a chance it could be caused by another app, something I should have considered given all of the advice I see and dole out here, thanks for bringing that up mustang7757, so trying it in Safe Mode might be worth while. At least then it might be obvious if this is an update issue or a bad app issue.

I kind of went after the camera because that was what was mentioned, but looking over your post again sparked another question. You mentioned that you use the power button as a shortcut to open the camera. Is this more likely to happen if you use this shortcut or does it really not matter? It doesn't spark any additional useful advice or anything but it brings to mind an old joke about a guy going to the Dr. "Hey Doc it hurts when I move my arm like this." "Well don't move your arm like that."

If OP does a search on camera with snap chat and others you'll find in s10+ forums older post .
