Good morning.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience purchasing refurbished phones from Amazon? I am looking at an S10 unlocked for around $239.
Your input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Good morning!

Online purchasing of phones can be a tricky but also rewarding business. Look at reviews of the seller or of their products if you can. Ask a lot of questions. See if you can return the device if it doesn't perform the way you like. Usually, a "try before you buy" is a good policy to follow.

Good luck, and let us know what happens!

If it is their renewed program then it is worth it. Amazon renewed gives you 90 days return period instead of 30. I bought my mum a Note 9 refurbished and it was like a brand new phone. Also Travis McP on YouTube did a whole series on Amazon renewed.

if amazon is selling it, you should be okay. if a third party, it could be dicey. I recently started purchasing refurbished devices from amazon, no phone, and not been burned yet. If the box did not have a description stating it was refurbished, you would never know. Even had the proper security tape on them.

I've noticed in some reviews of Amazon Renewed devices that on occasion, they might not properly reset them before they sell them. So when the buyer powers them on, they encounter Factory Reset Protection, where the phone is asking for the Google account/password of the previous owner. I'm sure this is not a common occurrence, but just make sure that returns are easy, in case you have to go that route.

I bought 2 phones from 2 different 3rd party sellers on Amazon that were scams... I got my money back, but that's a pretty big problem with a lot of things from Amazon, not just phones. I now only buy from Amazon themselves. If it doesn't say sold and shipped by Amazon LLC, I personally wouldn't buy it. In the end the hassles not worth the money you save.

Just as a follow up I purchased an S10 from Amazon. I'm very happy with it. Fast and fluid. Battery life is good.
Thank you all for your help.

As mentioned the return period is very generous, so there is no real downside to buying renewed from amazon. If its not as described just return it. Same with swappa, excellent buyer protection as well.
