Hey everyone,

Anyone having any issues with their phone looking like it's controlling itself. It just started last night for me and I can't get it to stop. I turned my phone off for a few minutes last night and that seemed to help, but then it started happening again this morning. Anyone else having this issue or know what possibly could be going on?

Hi,
Try to clear cache in recovery, if that doesnt help try safe mode .

A better, fuller description of what is actually happening would be helpful in getting some help.

It is constantly selecting different things, swiping randomly in different directions. A blue box is showing up around the different apps on my home screen, and sometimes it scrolls through them while selecting others. Everything is totally random.

Sounds like the digitizer is acting up and thinks the screen is getting touched when it's not. I've seen this a few times, don't know the exact cause, I assume it's a hardware failure. Verizon would warranty replace phones that did this when I worked there.

I've also experience this occasionally on my Note 8 but only while using head phones, it's weird, never found a software solution and I'm beyond the warranty.

As noted above it could be a digitizer, but there is the chance of something worse. Since we don't know what apps have been loaded nor where you downloaded them from there is the outside chance of a compromised phone.

I wouldn't trust a rep working at a Verizon store to make a diagnosis but you might call around to see if a store around you has a technician on staff.

A digitizer gone nuts will be covered by warranty. A compromised phone should be handled by a factory reset. If it's a compromised phone I would not restore from a backup, it should be a fresh install.

If you have a screen protector on, the first thing to do would be to take it off.

It sounds like you have universal switch turned on. Look in your accessibility settings, interaction and dexterity and make sure none of that is turned on. These are settings for persons with disabilities to control the phone with an external switch. It will have a blue box that scrolls through the icons etc for a person to make selections using a switch. Also check in "universal switch" in the same menu and see what's going on in there.
Perhaps someone turned this on as a prank?
