S20 will NOT have upgraded fingerprint scanner

So correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Samsung do a software update to the S10 several months ago that greatly improved the fingerprint scanner?

From what I read about it, the scanner is not as fast as the one on the Galaxy S9 but for the most part it improved things quite a bit. I don't have the S1O but just thought I'd ask.
They sent out software update after software update and each one was an incremental improvement. It's still way behind the note 9 with speed and accuracy. I've had every Samsung flagship since the s4 and the s10 was the first step backward as far as fps goes. Hopefully with the note 20 they'll get new hardware with a larger target area and greatly improved speed.

Interesting reading this thread seeing how it's a dealbreaker for some. I've never used the finger print unlock before. Should I be using it? I have a Note 9.

On the note 9, samsung moved the FPS from the side to the center.
It allows your phone to lock after say 2 minutes on non use.
And when you pick it up.
Place your finger on the FPS and unlock the phone.

My wife has a note 9 and loves it.

I was using the finger print sensor until started with facial recognition. now the only time I use it is to log on to some secure sites. whether or not you should use it is up to you and your usage. if it is inconvenient to remember passwords then use it. if not, then don't

I refuse, refuse to use facial recognition.

On the note 9 I would definitely use the fps and iris scanner. It's faster than the other unlock methods. As far as the fps on the s20 it's not a deal breaker for me. Mainly because I can't bring myself not to get the latest and greatest Samsung phone. The face unlock works quite fast on the 10 series and the fps works good enough for apps and passwords. Some people are concerned with the security of the face unlock, but I've tried to fool it and I haven't been successful yet. Some people are just way to paranoid. Someone would basically have to have a 3d replica of your face or a really high Def picture to fool the face unlock. Unlike a lot of people on this forum I'm looking forward to the s20 ultra. The only thing that has me second guessing is the price. I've figured my way around that by using one of my EIP lines for the s20 and jumping to a cheaper phone with my note 10+ to make up the difference in monthly cost.

Do you not think the police can't get access to your phone and finger prints.

I don't care how fast facial recognition or iris unlocks my phone.

The system has my finger prints from the military.
They have them from my LTC permit.

The phone should work for me.
Not the carrier, the mfg, or the government.
I'm spending my money.
It should be able to do it how I want the phone to operate.
Now how you will accept for it to operate.
It's bad enough that my phone keeps records of where I have been.
What sites I got on.
Who I called.

Didn't congress just go in and subpoena at&t phone records on somebody.
Where is privacy.

Where is my privacy.

And somebody in the government stands up and crys that the Huawei phones allow the Chinese to track me.
What are they doing here.

It don't take much to **** me off and make me throw one of these phones against a concrete wall.
And go without one for months.
Even though I'm a cancer survivor.

Wow... I thought I had anxiety issues. So do you put tape over the cameras on your phone too. What about the microphone, they have constant access to everything. Everything in your house connected to the internet is a way in for them. You should probably switch to a flip phone with no camera or internet access.

I was a lock & Safe man for 42 yrs.
Don't like people in my life.
Why does a carrier need to keep information on where you are.
Where you have been.
What time you was there.
And keep all this information on file.
Why not delete it.

And we all feel comfortable with cloud.

Why can't my information just be on my phone and sd card encrypted.

Just signed up, coming from XDA, never knew about AC!
A shame, after the rumors of 17x larger and supporting 2 prints at once. It will be same one, just moved up a little on the screen. Almost dealbreaker for me. Thats just me tho.

Hi, welcome to AC forums!

Be interesting what reviewers say about the fingerprint sensor , my experience hasn't been bad with ultrasonic but do prefer rear mounted or face id.

Great points here. I am also one that buys the new model each year as this is my one hobby that I allow myself to spend $ on and I am grateful I can...
Anyway, I wanted to go with the S20 but I am hearing that only the Plus (6.7”) and Ultra (6.9”) will have 5G on High, Mid & Low Bands and the S20 model (6.2”) will only receive 5G on Low & Mid Bands?? Anyone know if this will be a big deal?

That'll depend on which carrier you have, and what type of 5G they are focused on first.
