S20 zoom pictures not so good?

Is it just me or does it seem like it is really hard to get the camera to focus going to 4x zoom or higher? It seems like I have to move the phone around another to get it to focus on anything 4x zoom or higher. And the resulting photos are usually grainy, ans very washed out if flash is used.

0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 all put out decent results. But I'm just not getting the quality results on higher levels of zoom that other folks are.

I have the S20 plus. Taking pictures on 3:4 64mp and then zooming in on them works out really well. Though sometimes it's not so great. Coming from the mate 10 pro, the S20 plus camera overall didn't feel like an amazing jump

I think it's just gonna take me getting used to stabilizing the photos on my own. I know you loose optical image stabilization after a certain level of zoom. And being at the appropriate distance before using higher zoom should help too.
