Has anyone seen any mention of an SD card slot on the S22U? I guess it would mean the difference between a 256 or 512 device.

End of an era? Where have you been for the past two years? :p I know, I know... this is supposed to be the 'Note' version, but still. The 'regular' line did away from SD cards a while ago. (I hate it, but as long as they throw enough on-board storage, I'm OK with it... SD cards are unreliable anyway).

Yes it's probably over the SD card slots. Yeah they're forcing us to either buy the fold or buy a higher gigabyte phone and when that's not in stock you're kind in a jam.

New phone the S22 note 512, $1499.00. I just suggest early ordering that morning for the phone if you want to get a higher gigabyte phone without the SD card slot.

Just think you're going to have a phone next year probably with one terabyte in there for straight storage 😭.

And I don't even think that has OTG storage off loading will be available allegedly, because I bought my daughter another phone the Galaxy s21 fe for a second phone since the grandkids was starting to not share.
So one has the s21 Fe
The other s20 Fe.
The S21 Fe fast but no SD card slot.
No way they were getting s21 Notes with 128 only storage with no SD card slot.
Sammy being bad y'all!!

Not all of us want an SD card slot! I currently have 128 and only 44% is used and the phone is two years old, and I have over 3K songs and hundreds of PDF documents. Photos are downloaded to the computer when needed. Have to guess since Samsung sales are good, most can live without the SD slot even if upset. I will be opting for the 256gb model on the S22 if purchased, but probably not needed.

Are there any high-end phone models that do offer an SD card reader? Just curious.

Sammy is being just like most of the other manufactures who produce high-end phones. Don't believe the OnePlus10 will have a SD card slot, the Pixel 6 series didn't; Sony high end phones do offer SD card slots.

But what I've seen so far, Sammy is not being bad to me or thousands who will order next week within hours of the phones going on Sale.

Hope you find what you're looking for in a phone.

In my mind there are 2 reasons why phone manufacturers don't include SD Cards anymore.
One reason is the SD Card people buy that causes issues. People go out and but the cheapest Sd card they can. Makes sense except the speed of these cheap SD Card is often slower than the internal storage. This causes lag and slower read times. Then people complain that their phone is slow. It causes support headaches.

One is listed below...money they charge to upgrade you to the next storage tier. To me this is the number one reason.

"The reason that smartphone manufacturers are ditching micro SD card slots in their devices, especially at the high end, is money. Manufacturers can't charge a premium for an SD card slot, but they can charge a $100 for a few extra gigabytes of flash storage. ... And from a making money point of view, it makes good sense."

I was just curious. I'm about maxed out on the 512 card in my Note 10+ So I guess that means a S22U w/512 for me. And a lot of housekeeping.

Even the fastest SD cards are less than 1/10th the performance of modern internal storage. They aren't even useful for modern photography anymore, can't keep up with the file sizes. Literally the only use the offer anymore is space for mass file storage.

Yep in an era of 4 and even 6k video. The old SD card is a dinosaur. Things change, and we must change with them.

Old SD cards are slow and are dinosaurs with the new size videos and even stills, but the newer QXD cards are far from it. I can slam 10 46mb files onto a large QXD card as fast as my D850 will shoot (seven shots per second).

However, the price of these cards cost in the hundreds, and they are larger than the common micro SD card normally used on older phones with SD readers.

Maybe someday, a manufacturer will develop a phone that uses these cards. However, probably not for a long time after the prices drop to reasonable prices.

I would hope for those who do shoot a lot of video, the phone manufacturers will start realizing 256gb should be standard, with a top of 1tb optional.
Someday...maybe.

How long would it take to transfer 700GB from a Note 20 Ultra to an S22 Ultra. Days? Is it even possible if the S22 Ultra has 512GB limit? Samsung sucks.

Of course there won't be a microSD card slot and there hasn't been for a couple of years. Not sure why anyone would be surprised by that at this point.

Samsung created a replacement for micro SD cards using ufs like they do with internal memory but sadly no one adopted them so they only work in a handful of Samsung products.
