Hi,
I have a new S23 phone, in the Gallery, a folder has appeared called 'Recent' it must have been created when phone was activated. I had to factory reset phone within a couple of days and now this folder has over 6000 photos. Scrolling through there are lots of duplicates.

I have plugged phone into my PC to locate the folder there to try and delete a lot of duplicates there. I can't find the folder anywhere, i have opened every folder. Any ideas where it could be hiding.

Worse case i just delete the folder but i'd rather just trim the folder down a bit

Where are you seeing this folder? If it's on the Gallery app, most likely it's not an actual folder but just a 'view' (where all your recent media shows up, regardless of where they're actually stored).

For a new/restored phone, this would probably show all you just-downloaded media as it is, for the phone, recent. This should start to 'clean up' as you use the device.

Most likely this isn't a true/duplicated folder. You can confirm this by tapping on any picture there, tapping the three-dot menu button below, and selecting Details. There, under the date, you'll see the actual save path for that image.

will this extra folder be taking up storage space. Most photos originate in other folders.

Will deleting this folder or the contents in it delete from their original folders.

Did you already try what SpookDroid suggested above? What's the actual save path for the image file? SpookDroid is saying that the Recents is not a physical folder, and therefore would not be taking up extra space.
