S3 charging time!!

My S3 is only 2 months old and is taking ages to charge - after reading this thread I checked the micro usb end of the charger and it's also missing a pin. Tried a Blackberry charger instead and its charging fine! Went up 5% in 3 minutes. Phew, at least its not the phone. Ps - went into Vodafone shop and they wouldn't entertain this as the charger isn't covered by the warranty.

Cheers

Note that it's perfectly normal for a micro-USB cable to be missing a pin (pin 4 missing: as you look at the cable, with the rounded/smaller portion up, and count from left-to-right) - that pin is often not connected. http://pinoutsguide.com/PortableDevices/micro_usb_pinout.shtml

My solution to this problem was removing the case before charging. Apparently the case didn't allow the charger to connect to the phone properly.

my one takes nearly 6 to 8 hrs in s3 charger. but u will be shock to hear this my dad got a samsung S4 n when i used his charger it kind of takes 1 ot 2 hrs or sum less than that i dont know y

My S3 has been charging really slowly after the recent software update.
I left it charging overnight from 11pm onwards and at 7am the next day it wasn't even at 100%!
Something is wrong and it's not the cable as I've been using the phone for a year now, it was never like this.

The problem is with your USB cable. I also had this problem so i went to the service centre last week I guess and i saw at least four S3 users who had the same issue and came out the USB cables are faulty. This is surging these days with Samsung users especially S3.

The problem is with you like I mentioned before. Ever since I got mine replaced things are better.

It doesn't matter how long you've been using the phone - you need to try a different charger AND cable just to eliminate those from the equation.
If you haven't done a Factory Reset since the last update you may want to consider that. Obviously, backup your data before doing so (you can use the Kies software on your PC, or any of a number of apps for this purpose).
Have you tried rebooting your phone before you plug it in?
Finally, it's possible that your micro-USB port is starting to have trouble, but you'll want to eliminate all other possibilities before considering that.

Thanks for all your feedback guys.
So I've heard many users ended up getting a new charger/cable. Do we need to buy a new one or get a replacement from Samsung? (if the phone was purchased from Samsung).
Most people I spoke to said they bought a new one rather than get a replacement from Samsung, but I think it's only fair if we were given a replacement, as long as our cables are still in good condition.

I got a free replacement USB cord because my phone was under warranty. You should get the replacement from Samsung if it is I the warranty.

Hi

I had the same problem then I check my the cable that came with the phone and "surprise" missing pin, using a different cable with charger and everything is fine, Thanks for this thread guys.

Hi, I'm having the same problem for 2 days now.
My s3 is already 2 years old. so it's out of warrant. my batteries are new bought it 3 months ago from samsung service center so im trusting this is original. since, i got my new batteries i don't have any problem with it. my original charger though (usb cable with adaptor) is not functioning properly so i have been using an old original samsung charger (not a usb cable) for a month now and i have no problems with it. until 2 nights ago.

for 2 nights, ive been charing overnight and when i wake up 8 hours after, my batteries are not yet fully charged. (im charging with my phone off). right now, i charged it via usb cable - computer using an original samsung usb cord, and its STILL at 31% for 1 hour already. I changed to a wall socket, still 31% for 30 mins already. Now, i put my phone off still charging at the wall socket, after 30% its now at 34%.

i have been trying 3 chargers already, borrowing from friends who has original s3 chargers and 1 lenovo charger.

It's too slow. and i need my phone turned on for 24 hours.

1. i don't wanna root it. i just had this rooted and reporgrammed 3 months ago at a samsung service center for a different problem.

2. charging port doesnt have any unusualties when i looked at it.

my last resort is going back to the samsung service center which is far from my home.

nothing new in my usual phone routine. so why happen now?? oh, coincidentally this started when i downloaded bubble witch from play store (but i installed it and still have the problem.

Welcome to the forums!

That might have been related to your problem but since the slow charging behavior occurs with the phone completely off (if I've understood you correctly) it really is just a coincidence.

Since you've tried several other chargers/cables the most likely suspect is the micro-USB port:

It may be that it's just dirty - if that's the case you could try cleaning it out with compressed air or electronic contact cleaner & a toothbrush (be sure to remove the battery before doing the latter).

It may be that one or more of the pins in the micro-USB port are misaligned - you can find several explanations and YouTube videos that describe how to gently use a flattened pin to clean any gunk out of the port and how to realign the pins (again with the battery out).

Or you could invest in a wireless charging solution and bypass the micro-USB port altogether.
