s3 in the pool

So went to take a picture of the kids in the pool and the phone ended up in the pool. So now it is a bag of rice. Any chance it will come back to life?

Chlorine is not good for any brass or copper contacts.

I have not soaked my S3 but I have other phones..
Definitely leave it in rice for a few (3-5) days.
Better to make sure it is dry than short it internally when you replace the battery.

If it was underwater for more than 20 seconds or so, I'd leave it in the rice for atleast a week. And pull the sdcard too so the contacts can dry out too. My last phone got dripped on for awhile before I realized it, hit the hard keys by accident and they never worked again, so don't push the buttons if you haven't already either.

Nothing much you can do now but leave it in the rice and hope for the best. For others reading this, if you phone gets dunked in chlorinated water, salt water, or something like that, pull the battery, SD and SIM (if so equipped), rinse it in clean water, then stick it in a sealed bag or container of rice ASAP. Getting the salt and chlorine out is worth the brief extra exposure to water.

Distilled water is only 89c a gallon at my supermarket...
I usually have some around for car batteries and the iron.
Others say anhydrous alcohol will help (and I won't deny it)
It's miscible with water and has a higher vapour pressure. It dries without leaving residue.

Agreed, either would be a preferred rinse agent, but I figure if you get your phone wet at the pool or beach you probably don't have either handy, and rinsing quickly is more important. Waiting half an hour while you run to the store to buy alcohol wouldn't be a good idea.

No lie. I dropped my s3 in the toilet before (My Australian Shepherd jumped me from behind) and it was there for 5+ seconds. I grabbed the phone right away, yanking the battery & SD card out. Left it in rice for few hours and it was good to go. Luckily no one used the toilet prior.
