S3 Screen no longer responding

Hi guys, I really hope you can help me..

The story: After a drunken Birthday night out on Friday, I woke to find my S3 charging on the floor, and lying in a puddle of water. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I know one of my friends was messing about with it (changing wallpapers to offensive things, etc..) and then another friend broke a glass of water next to where it was charging and didn't think to move it.

Anyway I woke in the morning when I got a text, tried to read it but the screen was unresponsive. I pulled the battery and found loads of water behind it, so I dried it as much as I could and left it in pieces for a few hours to dry out. I then put the battery back in and it still has the same issue. Everything works on the phone- I can receive calls, text etc.. the sounds work, the buttons below the screen work, and I can use S-Voice to do a few things, but the screen itself wont respond.

I also plugged it in to my laptop and it'll charge, but it wont actually recognise the device so I can't back it up. It used to recognise it, so I'm assuming it's just a damaged cable and hoping it's not anything to do with the water damage.

I removed the back internal cover to have a look for signs of water but there was nothing. I now have it in a sealed container with rice, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

After a bit of research, am I right in saying it's the digitizer that is broken? It doesn't look too difficult to DIY- can the digitizer be bought and replaced on it's own? This won't affect the data on the phone will it? I'm hoping to rescue some photos from Friday to piece together exactly what happened.. haha!

Thank you for any help

Welcome to the forums!
It does sound like the digitizer is damaged, but doing repairs like this can be kinda tricky. With some parts you are just as likely to damage others (connectors, ribbons) as you are to fix the original issue.
