S4 display compared to iPhone retina?

I love my iPhone 5 retina display and was wondering how the S4 screen compares. I know the PPI is higher on the S4, but how may the pentile display affect things? So, how would the two displays compare?

I think it will be better. Nobody has the S4 yet so only time will tell.
I'm dumping my iPhone 5 for the S4 the second Verizon has them available. The iPhone 5 and iOS in general has become very old and stale.

Doing the same with my iPhone and totally agree. Can't wait to get the S4!

Already dumped my iPhone and will be dumping Verizon too. No more waiting for them to get off their butts on phones, no more crippled (or not as many features removed) compared to other carriers. It was fun, still have my data devices on Verizon and honestly if Google would make a Nexus with real storage and not this 32GB crap I would dump my iPad 4 128GB for one, but until then I am a dual OS person with a primary focus on ANDROID.

At that high of a resolution and with the "diamond" patterned Pentile matrix you won't even notice it

I don't have the phone but I have played with it and that screen is incredible.

I would love to jump the Verizon ship over to AT&T but the AT&T signal out here in the middle of the woods is pretty weak. I first got my new iPhone 5 on AT&T and when I got home with it , it had no service. Had to go upstairs and stick the phone out the window just to get 1 bar. :(

To be clear here, 1080p PenTile (441 ppi) is actually still sharper than Retina (326 ppi). It's even sharper than the Blackberry Z10 (355 ppi), which is significantly sharper than the iPhone 5.

1920 x 1080 at 4.7", 3 subpixels per pixel - 811 subpixels per inch (HTC One)

1920 x 1080 at 5", 2 subpixels per pixel - 624 subpixels per inch (Samsung Galaxy S4)

1280 x 768 at 4.2", 3 subpixels per pixel - 615 subpixels per inch (Blackberry Z10)

1136 x 640 at 4", 3 subpixels per pixel - 565 subpixels per inch (iPhone 5)
Equation used:

((N * (X^2 + Y^2))^0.5)/D

N = number of subpixels per pixel (PenTile = 2, RGB = 3)
X = X-axis pixels (640, 720, 1080, etc.)
Y = Y-axis pixels (1136, 1280, 1920, etc.)
D = diagonal length of display

Questions like these will never get an honest answer,the Samsung loyalist will tell you everything in the S4 is better,when the S4 is released take your iphone to the store and compare screens,i personally hate the screens on the S3/Note2,

Yeah, the S3 display looked like crap compared to my iphone 4. So long as the S4 is equal to the iPhone retina I think I'll love the S4. It's the only deal breaker I'm waiting to hear about for sure.

Who in this thread out right said S4 was better? Besides one person who was able to actually use the S4 and says it's great. But I guess the fact that he tried it and liked it makes him a Samsung loyalist as you say, and therefore negates his opinion.

I as well hate the screen on the S3.

The iPhone has a better screen, but compared to the S4, they are equal.

The screen tech was stepped up a lot. Probably not as good as the one, but definitely better than the s3 by leaps and bounds

And I didn't even say it was better, just said it was great. I couldn't tell a difference between it and the iphone, or better yet it or the dna

It will obviously look a little better in terms of resolution but I don't know about color reproduction.
The AMOLED screens always have that blue tint no matter what.

I hate it a lot on the S3.
I still hate it on the Note 2.

The only reason I sold my iPhone 5 was because the value was dropping so I am saving up for the next version.
Right now I am using the Note 2 (got it on Craigslist for $200) and it works but the screen quality/resolution is bad but liveable. My bigger concern is the color. There is that blue tint and I hope the S4 doesn't have it.

I wouldn't worry about it. For whatever reason if you speak favorably of a Samsung product you're a Samsung fanboy according to him, he's pulled the same stuff with me.

To be honest I haven't found something quite as crisp as the iPhones display.

I had the Z10 for two weeks and realizing that it has a higher resolution, higher PPI, and larger screen size it still didn't seem as good as the iPhones retina display. Something just always seems off when I switch to a new phone. Perhaps I've just built a bias towards the screen.

Though the BB10 brightness settings were terrible I couldn't quite get it where I wanted.

I'm excited to see what the HTC Ones screen brings when I get it.

I think my Nexus 4 is on par with the iphone 5 and my note 2 as well. I expect the 1080p screens to be even better. The Nexus 4 is a personal phone and the iPhone 5 my work phone.

I too am hoping the S4 screen is equal to the iP5 but it won't stop me getting the S4 at the end of the month (I already have it ordered). the iP5 fits in nicely as I have a Mac, iPad and MBA but I feel the iP5 is boring me now. However I am a phone-***** and completely admit that. I am also not a fanboy of any platform having used iOS, Android and BB all within the last 12-18 months. Time shall tell once I can get my grubby little mitts on the actual phone :)
