S4 screen going blank during calls

Just found this, and it worked for me.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...edition/311795-s4-proximity-sensor-issue.html

... the proximity sensor collects dust and you need to shoot the earpiece (which the sensor is connected to) with a can of compressed air. $5 for the air and 30 seconds and it should work good as new.

I tried the canned air, with no success.

Which direction should the air be aimed?

I blasted from all directions. No help.

I appreciate those who take questions seriously and screw those that shout abuse hiding in anonymity.
I had the same issue and it had nothing to do with settings. After reading this post I checked the Samsung site and the proximity sensor is inferred. The little circle next to the ear piece. In my case my screen protertor had started to lift and all I needed to do was peel it back enough to wipe the sensor with my shir.
Problem fixed and time for a new screen protector.

Despite adjusting the settings to disable the screen-switch off during calls, the damn thing still switches off. Which is why I ask the question again. How do I stop this? I use my phone on speaker always, and it STILL SWITCHES OFF during calls.
People shouldn't get sarky with noobs who don't understand how their phones work. It's human nature. We should be wise and caring and help these folk, not diss them.

It's due to the screen timeout function. Just download any "keep screen on" app, or use power toggels "always awake screen on wakelock function" .

My problem is somewhat different. The screen comes on when I take it away from my face, but when I start entering numbers in response to prompts, sometimes the screen does not stay on, it will turn off as soon as I start pressing numbers. Gets very frustrating. Any suggestions?

I really wish people would at least TRY going through their settings before asking a question like this

Stop being a bellend. Whether they tried or not, who cares? Surely in the spirit of co-operation things would be much better if people just helped and stopped having a ******* strop.

To the person that posted this >I really wish people would at least TRY going through their settings before asking a question like this< Hey smart *** we did un-check the turn off screen during calls and the screen still goes blank

When that happens, does it happen most often when you are trying to enter a number from the top row (1, 2, or 3)? If so, you are likely holding your hand such that it is detected by the proximity sensor and the phone is acting as if you put it back up to your face. Try to keep your hand near the bottom of the phone when you are entering those numbers. I used to have this problem and I have learned to be careful how I hold my hand, and it no longer happens.

Check the image quality of your front camera. If the image is blurred, the issue is probably a modern example of an ID10T issue. Solution: clean the glass lens area of the front camera.

However, If the image is distorted, foggy, opaque, or worse: black screen, then it may require a camera replacement and/ or internal cleaning.

I already did this - and it's still blanking on me. I use this phone as my primary phone so when I have to call any sizeable organization, I need access to the keypad during the call to be able to make menu selections. I've heard factory reset as the next possible course of action - don't suppose it can hurt.

Sorry - new to the forum and didn't realize there were a bazillion other posts to go through before I posted my reply. Checking now...

Is there actually a setting for this. I can't find one. New to smart phones. This is a Galaxy S6 out of the factory box an hour. The screen goes black while talking and does not come back on when lowered into view. I have 2 of these. I got one for my landlady. Mine does what it's supposed to and hers doesn't.
Thanks for any help.

I had the same issue on the new s7 edge. But my fix was very simple and straightforward. I found out that my screen protector was off by just a little bit. By a little bit, i mean less than 0.5mm. But that was enough to block the prox sensor. So after adjusting it, it works fine. So for those who have a screen protector or film, this may be the cause.

There is a difference between trying and not trying though. I came from Blackberry I had NO idea what to do with an Android, I simply went through menu to menu and figured it out.
Point is, it's obvious some people don't even TRY. That's my point.

Your point is taken. Some people do not have the know how. Some would rather ask for help and possibly get a quick answer. Some are better equipped mentally like yourself.
Then there are the likes of you who really do not want to help anyone. Rather than post
you peeve you can either help or just shut up. One reason for forums is to get help.
The rest is pure BS like Farce Book.
